As an industrial contractor I came upon another practical use for #bitchat today. Comms within a large manufacturing facility where cell service is bill. Walkie talkies are currently the preferred method and suit the need well, but I can see a benefit to using text comms too. I'll see if I can get someone to set it up with their maintenance team.

I've read through two #history of architecture books recently. The first was "Who Built That?" by Alan Phillips a short (70 pages) summary that I #read end to end. However, I was unimpressed at the general idea of architecture from the and of the 19th century to now. The second was "The Story of Architecture" by Witold Rybczynski. It was much more comprehensive, informative and better written. However, the same thing happened when I got to Chapter 24, "Modern Life: Vienna, early twentieth century", interest lost. I scanned the chapters ahead, reading the photo captions, and ended up just stopping there. I can understand the first skyscrapers and new materials being works of art and genius. Shortly after that though I see little to no #craftsmanship, #skill, #ingenuity or #originality to what's built and touted in the #architecture world. My #opinion is that it feels more like a shock factor to grab attention OR it's engineer driven design. #aethsteics #matter
