The easiest #bitcoin node setup I've tried so far is: * Debian 12 w/XFCE desktop gui * Umbrel image Debian installer is good. Simple enough for almost anyone. Only other task is to get Umbrel installed... in just TWO SIMPLE COMMANDS! * `apt install curl` * `curl -L https://umbrel.sh | bash` BUT THERE'S A "BUT"!! It's only this simple if I log in as `root`. The user that the setup creates doesn't have `sudo` access. Obv I can add the user to sudoers, but now we're getting deeper into linux and losing the total noob simplicity. I'm not a linux security expert. At all. Is it a "Nope, unacceptable!" to install and run the Umbrel docker containers as `root`?

What are my options for remote nostr key signing running on my home server? @PABLOF7z's nsec bunker is overkill for me (I'll just stay VPNed into my LAN so would prefer a more direct approach). Would ideally be able to sign events for web clients ( @primal, @nostr.build) and Amethyst on Android.

Yo, this all-metal @SeedSigner case from MoneroTime (twitter handle) is sexy af!! The design lines and the craftsmanship are incredible. And the thinner sandwich build plus the weight of the metal enclosure makes it feel so beautifully substantial and more dense than a typical SeedSigner. Also a nice endorsement for FOSS. MoneroTime's design interest was mostly (or maybe wholly) motivated by using our hardware as a MoneroSigner -- yup, a fork of SeedSigner for Monero. Our FOSS code attracted more eyeballs and talent and skills to contribute to the mix. Cool.

DUMP YOUR RASPI NODES. Get a used mini PC or used laptop for cheap! More powerful, only $45-75 on eBay (plus ~$65 2TB ssd, but you'd need that anyway for your Raspi node). This HP EliteDesk 705 G4 is **overkill** for a node. 5 yrs old. Costs $75*. Fan noise? Meh. Power draw? CPU's max draw is 35W. Once it's done syncing, the video can't even pick up the fan running at idling speeds: Cost to run: 15W * 24hrs / 1000W/kW * 12¢/kWh * 30 days = $1.30/mo This cpu is 8.5x more powerful than a Raspi4. A more pleb-friendly option is a used laptop. Has everything you need built-in (esp the BATTERY!!! Huge advantage vs Raspi). This HP ProBook 450 G3 is running an 8yr old i5-6200U (3.5x more powerful than a Raspi4). Also super-quiet and low power (15W max cpu draw).

Can't tell if it's residual covid hangover or just being a lazy af pos, but I accomplished absolutely nothing today.

More @primal feedback: My heart/like clicks sometimes take a few moments to fill in the outline to red. I assume there's some broadcast/relay comms delay going on in the background. Maybe show a "pending" colored state (or circling/loading animation around the heart?) while awaiting a response from relays? I just want some kind of feedback to know that it's in progress and not just my browser tab going totally unresponsive. Animation on success would be fun, too!

If you stop and ask yourself, "wait, is the norm to say 'n-of-m' or is it 'm-of-n'?", you will never be sure which one is right. And simply by reading this note, I have infected you with the same curse. #multisigofmadness

Sorry, carnivores. After loving my keto + intermittent fasting results since June (20% body fat -> 12%!), I'll be switching over to be more plant-based for a while to see how a loose ovo-lacto-pescatarian diet pairs w/intermittent fasting. image Basic countours: * include some animal proteins (eggs, cheese, yogurt, salmon) * but majority plant-based * avoid "fast" carbs * no sugar (except honey, some fruit) * no processed foods (obv) * ~17/7 intermittent fasting ...but without being really super-strict about anything (occasional steak? sure). Keto is an amazing tool; I've done it to varying degrees for *years* but it can sometimes make my brain feel a bit foggy, like I'm missing something it needs. Maybe just coincidence w/some other factor. I dunno. That's part of why I like the idea of changing things up and seeing what happens. #foodstr

Forgive me nostr for I am about to sin. I've been posting nostr-first / nostr-only the last few days, but I just wrote a long twitter thread full of nerdy goodness and am about to copy-paste it here. What is the proper ritual to perform to cleanse my nostr karma?
