More and more often, looking around, I notice a widening gap in the world of work.
On one side, there are those who are riding the wave of AI: ideas that are popping up like mushrooms, capabilities enhanced almost magically.
On the other side, however, the comfort zone of traditional methods tenaciously resists: tried and tested procedures, yes, but often as slow as a snail with sciatica, which burn resources and precious time in activities that, let's face it, are not exactly exciting and that clip the wings of innovation.
And I notice that it's NOT just a matter of age.
We are experiencing an epochal change of pace, and Artificial Intelligence is the unstoppable locomotive that is setting the rhythm.
Looking closely, I seem to see three figures emerging in this new professional comedy:
1️⃣ The Creators of Tomorrow: They don't just use AI, they invent it, they shape it, they raise the bar higher and higher. They are the true architects of the future. Finally, it's their time (ours, I'd like to say): the time of those you once called 'nerds' with a smirk and who now, ironically, are calling the shots and rewriting the rules of the game. Applause.
2️⃣ The Intelligent Users (Those Who Got the Message): These weren't caught unprepared. They understood that AI is not an enemy to be feared, but a very powerful ally (if you know how to handle it). They study it, test it, integrate it, questioning their daily routines to do more and better, freeing up time to think and create real value. They don't just float along; they are learning to surf the wave of change to remain key players. Good for them.
3️⃣ The Fallen Nobles of the House of "We've Always Done It This Way": They, clinging proudly (and with a bit of fear?) to the dear old "we've always done it this way." Perhaps very good in their field, but reluctant to question habits, as if AI were a passing fad or something for "techies." The risk? Finding themselves, in the best case, struggling mightily while the world races ahead, risking ending up in oblivion. Too bad for them.
The funny part? Is that for many of us, the door to Category 2 is wide open.
You don't necessarily need an honorary degree in quantum engineering applied to AI.
Often, a good dose of curiosity is enough, the desire to experiment without fear of making mistakes, and the awareness that standing still is the riskiest strategy of all.
The future is knocking at the door. We can pretend nothing is happening, complain about the noise, or... Go open it and see what happens.
Where do you place yourselves in this amusing little theater? And what are you doing to avoid finding yourselves explaining to your grandchildren how nice it was to use Excel 97?
