Stumbled upon this podcast title today. If I wanted to attract a lot of people to learn about Bitcoin I wouldn’t choose that narrative. It turns most people off. image

Secure Bitcoin self-custody means sticking to the standards: Use cold storage, write down the seed (on steel plates, paper, anything but digital), hide it in different places, add a passphrase (you can put that in a password manager or offline, but don't store it WITH the seed) and write a will. !!! The leading market structure bills moving through Congress could leave US persons prohibited from utilizing non-custodial wallets and service providers. That would mean no self-custody, no privacy, no freedom. US Americans please call your representatives and tell them to support section 110 of the Clarity Act. @Matt Corallo discussed this on @Stephan Livera and What Bitcoin Did. image

Flashback to BTCPrague 2024! I was speaking about Bitcoin and how it enforces human rights on stage and Aukse & Anja included me in their film: Proof of Women. It came out great!

I thought I added the word „enough“ before privacy, when I wrote this reply, but somehow it didn’t make it there. „Enough“ privacy I was meaning to say. I lived in Zimbabwe a country that is ruled by a government that is detaining and killing people for their speech and opposition. I know about the dangers of having no privacy, I put myself in that danger. My lived experience from Zimbabwe is that self-custodial LN, Liquid and non KYC Bitcoin exchanged P2P is good enough (with BOLT12 privacy on LN will be increased). Monero has higher privacy that’s true, but you won’t find anyone accepting it or exchanging it to cash on the ground. And activists need the cash to be able to do their work. View quoted note →
