#history #economics #money image

I have been thinking about Agenda 2030 and the 17 "Sustainable Development Goals" that despite their well meaning and well sounding proposals always somehow end up being used to justify centralised, bureaucratic and socialist solutions. Somehow the conclusion is always more taxation, more regulation and more centralised control... in short they are globalist propaganda. But what would be their opposite? What would be an agenda for freedom that actually promotes their stated goals of poverty reduction in a real and measurable way? A list of principles that actually defends people's rights and freedoms instead of pushing for their serfdom? Principles for a decentralised, p2p world with no masters... image

The European Payments Alliance (EuroPA) and European Payments Initiative (EPI) agree to make a EU wide instant payment standard by interconnecting national instant payment systems in 15 countries. It will only take them a few years and thousands of hours of negotiations to get what all of us already have with zaps ⚡ on Nostr. ...and even then, it will be a Frankenstein monster of bank interconnections and multiple intermediaries all accessing personal financial information and imposing their rules and restrictions. People criticise the lightning network for being to complicated! Wait until you see a system diagram for this cobbled together masterpiece of bank bureacracy! https://www.finextra.com/newsarticle/46190/epi-and-europa-join-forces-in-push-for-european-payments-sovereignty

The history of the athenian empire seems like the best historical parallel to the american empire. Both are thalassocracies with more naval power and trade power than huge conquering armies. Both are leaders of large coalitions (Delian League, Nato) rather than nominal empires. Both rose to dominance as junior allies of the previous power and after victory in large wars. If I had to extend the parallel to the future I would expect the fall of US hegemony to come after a debilitating war with one of its previous allies, followed by the rise to power of an Alexander type conqueror. What would be the american equivalent of the Peloponnesian war? What will be america's Macedon? What country would play the role of Persia?

Monetary debasement was a big contributor to the decline and fall of the Western roman empire. The fact that the Eastern Empire managed to keep hard money in the byzantine Solidus for 1000 years longer than Rome is one of the reasons that it managed to survive. In simple terms: pay your soldiers in bad money and you will soon find yourself replaced as emperor. image
