It's also interesting that they tell us we are a Republic even though we have a FEDERAL government, this would imply to me that we are infact a federation and not a Republic. This would also imply the Dem. republicans like Thomas Jefferson lost the battles of states rights and individual freedoms to said federalist and what we are presented with today is just an illusion of choice. In my eyes the Libertarians are the true successors to those original Dem. republicans.

American politics starts to makes more sense when you learn that modern Democrats were called Federalists and modern Republicans were formerly the Democratic Republicans. Federalist = big government more taxes more social programs, natianal banks Dem. Republican = small fed. government more emphasis on states rights and individual rights, anti national banks. Using terms like liberal/conservitive can be confusing because they can be applied socialy, financially or religiously, and givin nobody will agree on everything so there is a spectrum. I agree a revamp is needed, the average person couldn't tell you the difference between the partys, libertarians are the only ones with a name indicative of their beliefs.
