I spotted this power pole during my walk today. I could that it was old. It's not as straight, smooth or round as modern poles. It was also heavily pock marked from linemen's climbing spikes. The belly button shows that it is a creosote treated, doug fir, manufactured in 1948. It's still standing after 75 years, they must have built it right. That was during the era that this area was homesteaded, just three years after the electric coop was founded. It's pretty interesting to think about what life was like back then and men that built this place with their bare hands. It is also makes me a bit worried that the coop doesn't have a preventative maintenance plan to replace things before they fall down. That's probably going to bite them in the ass sooner or later. #Alaska #linemen
