You should probably block me
If Bitcoin could be softforked to increase the blocksize and make confidential transactions, AND the cost of running a full node was completely free, would you agree with this softfork?
If Bitcoin softforks and we get #drivechains (that don’t effect you, your node, or the lightning network), and everyone tells you to switch to a different version of Bitcoin to save it like our heroes in the blocksize wars, would you do it? If the price of the softfork goes down, will you make the switch? 'If there was another fork, BlackRock’s ETF prospectus says it gets to decide which of the two cryptocurrencies is the “real Bitcoin,” despite what investors or other users of the blockchain think, Lubka said. This likely would lead the firm to dump all of its holdings in whichever coin isn’t selected. “If they’re sitting on 5 million Bitcoin, that means they’re going to sell 5 million of the other fork,” Lubka said. “They’re going to tank the price.”'
Who do you trust? It has been an uphill battle trying to learn economics, technology, philosophy, and how to store your keys. The economics and philosophy were mostly there already, but I didn’t know Bitcoin is the thing to realize it. Now I do, and it’s been interesting engulfing myself into this space. I read and listen to podcasts, and I’ve learned many familiar tropes: `1 BTC = 1 BTC`, `Not Your Keys Not Your Coins`, and most importantly `Don’t trust, Verify` 👀 Don’t Trust, Verify? Easy for you to say Adam Back. You understand the code 😅 Like most of you, I assume there are capable hands working on the code. Thousands of developers read the code to make sure it matches what the Core devs say. I think this is reasonable, because everyone working on Bitcoin has an incentive for Bitcoin to succeed. That is the beauty of open source software. This acceptance was an important moment for me. It’s the moment I began to trust. Then I started trusting the influencers and the people who repeated them. Then I started repeating them, without verifying. I cannot do that. Apathy kills liberty. I have to think about what I want Bitcoin to be. I want Bitcoin to be a highly secure decentralized currency that removes centralized control over my life. If this is what you want, then we should talk about that. How does Bitcoin become this? By all of us hodl hodling and hoping for the best? Maybe. I really don’t know, and that is why you should NEVER trust me. However, there is a lot I can verify, and it is not very difficult. Does 1 BTC equal 1 BTC? Well yes, the equation proves itself. Does $1 equal $1? Yes, so why are people repeating this? Look into it and decide for yourself. The people we follow on social media can teach us a lot, and I’m not saying we should disregard them. I’m only saying that I’m not going to trust them. Do they have ulterior motives? Are they ignorant about a specific subject? I can verify these things, and I will. Bitcoin changes, and it has to change for it to become what I want. That sucks, but it’s the reality. CLTV was needed for Lightning. SegWit is touted as the savior of the blocksize wars. And now we have monkee JPEGs on Layer 1 forever. We are going to hear a bunch of reasons why it needs to change in the future. It’s up to us to make sure we fully understand the changes that are being proposed, and the technologies that are being promoted to us. It’s important to know why Bitcoin has changed into what it is today. We can verify these things. BitcoinCASH is a shitcoin. Why? They wanted to increase the blocksize. Why? So we could have faster and cheaper transactions. They want Bitcoin to be a decentralized currency that removes centralized control over our life. That’s what I want! So why is it a shitcoin? It’s hard to be sure, because big blockers were censored from major subreddits and Bitcoin Talk. That’s an important time in history everyone should know about. I know why BCH is a shitcoin, but again, DO NOT TRUST ME. I have purposely talked very selfishly about what I want Bitcoin to become, because I truly believe I’m not alone. If you want Bitcoin to be a rock you can legally cash in for fiat, or a database for your monkee jpegs, then GFY. I don’t trust you. I expect you to say the same to me. If you want the same thing I want (and I think you do), then LFG! A very important fork is about to happen in Bitcoin. It will not be a hardfork, and it will not be a softfork. It will be a fork in the road, where we decide what Bitcoin will become. There are a few tribes of Bitcoin I have to interrogate, and my node will choose whatever gets me closer to what I want.
Hey @Guy Swann I sent you a DM. I’m not sure if you check them often, so I’m just letting you know. Please feel free to ignore. You won’t hurt my feelings 😅
