The #Liquid incident showed that moving #Bitcoin to a sidechain doesn’t necessarily mean it has the same security model as the main network.
In #Liquid, part of the security is tied to the Elements software and the federation mechanism, and it uses a unit called L-BTC for payments. This difference can introduce risks that are not present in the #Bitcoin network itself.
Of course, this is not a concern for Lightning. Lightning is a second layer of #Bitcoin designed for fast and low-cost payments and has its own technical sensitivities, but ultimately uses real #Bitcoin in its channels for payments.
For this reason, the risks of #Liquid cannot be directly generalized to #Bitcoin itself. In fact, the incident further demonstrated that the further we move away from the core #Bitcoin architecture and add more mechanisms, the more new risks we need to consider separately.
