People are always posting clips of Bill Gates and Larry Fink. “Oooh Bill Gates wants you to eat his poison sludge!” “Larry Fink wants you to be his serf!” “Google is doing this, Apple is doing that.” The aim is, “pay attention to this scary thing I’m posting!” And you read that shit long enough, and eventually you start to think they’re winning, that 1984 is inevitable. The very posts that attempt to “wake you up” are in fact eroding your morale, keeping you from living your life without a constant sense of dread in your chest. What a brilliant psyop, incentivize people via the online attention economy to spread futility and despair to their peers. Real life FUD, total ownership of your consciousness, not a single shot fired.

So much of fear mongering is taking present trends and extrapolating them linearly or exponentially into the future. But every action has an equal and opposite reaction. For every totalitarian measure, there will be a new freedom tool, for every AI advancement in making deep fakes there will be ever better and more accessible methods of verification via cryptography, e.g.. It’s almost formulaic at this point: “X is happening. If this persists, we’re all in 1984!” But they always imagine nothing *else* happens in response. It’s raining! If this persists, we’ll be flooded before long!

Thoughtful post, captures a lot of what I often feel too. How are the coffee shops even open? How are people showing up to work for a debasing fiat wage? How are they getting out of bed, walking into this slaughterhouse of a society? But there has always been suffering. And there always will be. It’s not that things will get better or worse. It’s that you always have the choice to place your attention where you decide to place it. That your consciousness is inviolable, no matter what “they” are doing. Bitcoin won’t affix your consciousness for you, but it’s an instantiation in the real world of energy directed in this same uncapturable way. Tick tock next block is the energy pulled, little by little, out of the fiat prison and stored in the free world. https://highlighter.com/a/naddr1qvzqqqr4gupzq6knu235sx9320yp7jx93azw2xv70d8u3klr0qg2qqxuu0yska6qqy2hwumn8ghj7un9d3shjtnyv9kh2uewd9hj7qqv2ashgetj944kkef3dqesv3ltff View quoted note →

Reason billionaires love socialism is they are above the fray, protected from its reach. It’s the low millionaires they aim to destroy, the people wealthy enough not to comply with capitalism’s coercive incentives, but not wealthy enough to avoid the reach of the State. Small business owners and self-made people are dangerous to the billionaires with big agendas because they can dissent, they can speak the truth to the average person, can demand justice for their misdeeds. The ruling class wants to rule unmolested by dissent. And socialism is the way to shut people up. View quoted note →

Fear and hope sell. But resolve carries the day. Oddly, my Twitter feed, full of click bait and noise, is often less fear-mongering than my nostr follows. What the fuck happened to “tick tock, next block?”

Think we will discover eventually that all conceptions are only maps of reality, not the territory. Like all of history, cosmology, science, theology are just maps. That it’s all a leap of faith. This might be the meaning of the Tree Of Knowledge parable.

Reading this book about the philiosophy of math, and he’s talking about the number 3 like it’s not obvious what it is. What do you mean by “3”? The sets of all things of which there are “3” elements? That’s kind of redundant. So he’s trying to build an understanding of “3” from first principles, and I don’t understand what he’s talking about specifically. But I get the gist.

Was walking @Oscar Liss yesterday, had the realization I was walking an animal, a different species, on leash in public. Like WTF? Sometimes you get habituated to ordinary reality so much you don’t notice it anymore.

Instead of AGI, think we’ll soon discover the upper limits of AI and find it wanting. Wrote a short story about it a couple years ago: naddr1qvzqqqr4gupzq6knu235sx9320yp7jx93azw2xv70d8u3klr0qg2qqxuu0yska6qqqv9xatsv4exjmn5v4kxc6t8v4hxxefdd43xvanrx5l5yz98

Problem with Twitters’s new algo is it gives you *too much* of what it thinks you want. You watch a couple of preseason NFL clips, and my whole feed is NFL click bait accounts posting clips. The problem with algos is they are always going to be stupid and predicated on the past. Same reason Spotify can't compete with a good human DJ. The experience always leaves you wanting because it's trying to fit the future into the past. At some point, you find music that is new and different from your prior taste. Giving people what they know has a limit. This also is why AI will only take us so far. It operates only be rearranging the known, has no way to connect with the unknown.

Don't fear the central banking cartels. They would do everything and anything to hold onto power, but you are the predator, not the prey. View quoted note →

One thing I don't understand about gender dysphoria is why it always goes in one direction. Like if you’re male, and your body doesn’t meet your self-conception, why must it always be that you need to be female? Why couldn’t a man be like, “Damn, I’m just way too male for this body, I need a second penis, maybe an extra set of testicles, some mega-doses of roids?” Show up for the surgery, like LFG.

Feel bad taking hard-earned sats from these dudes, but had to be done for the sake of the protocol. @stacker_sports @Stacker News model -- peer to peer sats for sports and fantasy sports content -- is the future though. If I were starting a serious fantasy sports company (might still do so at some point) I'd 100 percent have a presence there. Will post a link to the write-up of the draft later today on @realmansports.

Walked into the sauna (86 celsius), two women were in it. Stayed 15 minutes, they left after 10. Went to the cold plunge pool for 3 minutes, then back in the sauna. About 5 minutes later, women come back, I'm in the same spot. We sit together 10 minutes, before they leave. I'm thinking they don't know I left to cool down. To them, I've been in for at least 33 minutes at 86, must have seemed like a God.
