Maybe you don't have a bunch of lumber you need to dry, but it's about to be winter in the northern hemisphere and many people still use electric space heaters. I was at Home Depot the other day and saw 1000+Watt electric space heaters selling for under $50 - similar powered miners are around $1000, such as the Avalon mini 3. An 800 watt device that will give you just under 40 Th/s Will anybody who isn't a fanatic spend $1000 upfront to get back 1 or 2 dollars a day on their electric rate? It would take years of rewards for this to make sense to the average consumer. Not to mention that their share of the rewards will continuously go down as the difficulty goes higher and higher. If we want to have a miner in every home, which I do, then we have to keep working. I'm inspired by the work that goes on here:
