Arizona parents sue after son suspended for threatening but deleted email
Arizona parents are suing a school district after their son was suspended for a threatening but deleted email.
According to the complaint, the unnamed student had gotten a bad grade on an assignment, so his mother suggested that he send his teacher an email to ask what he could do to raise the grade.
The teen reportedly opened his school-issued laptop and started typing and joking around with his mother, who was right next to him.
According to court paperwork, he wrote, “Mister, mister, I want to date your sister,“ while singing aloud to his mom.
He then wrote, “GANG GANG GIMME A BETTER GRADE OR I SHOOT UP DA SKOOL HOMIE,” the lawsuit said.
His mother claims to have immediately told him to delete the message, which he did, but the damage was done.
The message was flagged by an artificial intelligence software program that the district uses to monitor school-issued Chromebooks.
