There are reports that those who express support for Palestinians are being shadowbanned by centralised social media (x, Facebook, YouTube, TikTok, Instagram). We are not talking about accounts supporting hamas or any other terrorist group. We are talking about people sympathizing with the Palestinian people including civilians and small children caught in the crossfire.

Why is it more important to build an audience in nostr instead of X? X is a centralised entity controlled by just one person. No matter how good or virtuous this person is, he has the ability at any given moment to make an arbitrary decision which could be against you. For example he can limit access to the platform, impose fees to use it, censor content, shadowban your account, block your content or delete your account, use excessive advertising or just make the whole UX bad. The thing is: you don't have actual control over your content. Suppose you decide to leave the platform, you can't take your posts and audience somewhere else. On the contrary, on nostr your content and your followers are yours forever. No matter if a relay blocks you, or a client does not display your content properly, your posts are still available on another relay and displayed properly on another client or app. Your followers are yours too. Nobody can censor you, or delete you or limit your reach. You are free to broadcast to the world and no one can silence you. Even if all relays block you, you can still run your own relay. As our future becomes more gloomy and dystopian, freedom of expression might be oppressed. Nostr ensures that no matter what, we still have a voice. My Wordpress web hosting ends next month. I don't blog much these days. Should I abandoned it and move to #nostr for all my posts? In theory, I could use it to post things almost like a Wordpress blog, right?

Setting up a #nostr node seems like a valuable way to contribute to the society. It promotes decentralization, fosters the exchange of ideas, eliminates censorship, and encourages everyone to participate.

I'm gradually moving away from Twitter (or "X"). I find myself using #nostr more and more.
