What is the easiest way to get a custodial Lightning address considering Alby is invite-only and Wallet of Satoshi is out of the app stores?

After all the excitement, money, and hype of last year, Mastodon is proud to announce it has made 3 minor User Experience improvements.

Average BCH fee: $0.0063 Average BTC fee: $4.12 So... increasing the block size worked?? I'm trying to understand why we built a whole complicated Layer 2 Lightning Network, with a basically impossible user experience and worse centralization issues, instead of just tweaking a configuration value?

Do you ever love something violently? I feel like there should be a Persian word for this.

As I'm learning about Bitcoin Lightning, I'm seeing some major red flags. To use it, you need an account with a service provider. It's a username/password type of custodial account. Then, the node has full control over your funds. They could shut down without warning, or transfer your funds. The only way to actually have control is to run your own node, but doesn't that defeat the purpose of Lightning? The whole point is to allow many users to transfer tiny amounts of money a lot, eg zaps. To me, it seems that Lightning nodes have all the problems of Mastodon. Imagine the problems of Mastodon, except it's your bank account. That's bad. What am I missing?

Ruby is the worst programming language in common use. I don't even want to hear complains about JavaScript. At least I can tell where code is coming from without searching the whole codebase. Ruby is fraternal knowledge, and its secrets are stupid. image

Fun things you can do with internet identifiers like alex@gleasonator.com: Webfinger (used by ActivityPub) Nostr NIP-05 Bitcoin Lightning (dumb method) Bitcoin Lightning (other dumb method) Email??? These should probably all be part of Webfinger, since Webfinger was designed to do all of it. Also it would be neat to build a little React app where you can enter an internet identifier, and it pulls all these URLs to give information about what it all supports. image
