BREAKING NEWS Inflation impacts on the use of language and precipitates further decline in the soft power reach of Imperial measurements! Apart from more regular use of the term "wtf, how much?! inflation can bring about subtle changes in language to hide quite a big deal. In Spain, a 10-pack of eggs, not a dozen, is becoming the norm in supermarkets. A "decena" de huevos as opposed to the ubiquitous "docena". What's in a vowel? Ruin, I tell you!!! And a pain for those who refuse to go metric in a warped egg market! image I have a dozen backyard hens all told. 8 super layers and some retirees. When a kindly neighbour recycles their egg boxes, invariably they are tenners now. So I've usually got 2 eggs left over. It''s getting quite complicated to drop off a dozen neighbourly eggs these days, unless I work out a couple of extra shatterproof pockets for my shirt. First world problems, I know. Although the empire that uses imperial measurements, and whose government is driving inflation, might not stay as First World as it wants, unless they sort out their inflation issues. Oh yeah, they can't! #chickens #inflation #Spain #bitcoin
Just emerging from a little rabbit hole about image metadata, prompted by the message that pops up after uploading images to @Nostrbuild It seems if you want to remove metadata yourself, Exiftool is the beast to use. It's a command line tool that "everybody" raves about. Definitely super speedy and more thorough than a couple of GUI options I tried, like ImageOptim. Having said that, I'm curious about how Nostrbuild strip metadata, because the message from a jpg file they upload says something like {"date:create":"2024-08-27T12:46:16+00:00","date:modify":"2024-08-27T12:46:16+00:00","jpeg:colorspace":"2","jpeg:sampling-factor":"2x2,1x1,1x1"} That is nothing compared to what Exiftool leaves, or sips or mdls reveal. Have you guys found some extra juice for stripping metadata or is that message a redacted version?
Spain is losing its tiny mind, and it's health, moving away from olive oil over to sunflower oil. It's all down to price of course. I firmly believe that prices of olive oil need to be higher to keep the industry sustainable, but with recent big drops in supply, it's clearly too much of a price hike, too soon. The govt tried to intervene and dropped the VAT, whoopee, but that did nothing. The supermarkets have been quite socially responsible and are selling oil at what must be below market rate. Or they are getting back door subsidies, or they are including non virgin olive oil in their numbers. But whatever the shenanigans it's not keeping the country on EVOO.. Slowly, slowly, suddenly the balance has flipped away from a staple health food for centuries to a cheap and cheerless alternative. Maybe it will slip back? Got to make the small olive growers profitable without having to gouge the customer. It's always been so. That's where a mobile chicken farm on an olive grove shines, as I intend to prove..Double incentivised now to make it work. #chickens #olives #Spain
Nostr apps in the dock ready and waiting for daily action. Easy to visualise the alternative internet building. us.image
Listening to Obi of Fedi on TFTC Nostr better be ready for another influx of users. Ex X users are going to be swamped by the # Fedi newcomers. Bitcoin development seems really lame now haha The levels above the base chain are where the exciting moves are all at.
Built my own Nostr fan club today. Apps to follow. image Put proton apps in a grid. Ready for action now, out the way of Google at least.. image
Paw patrol every morning. And every morning the 35kg hound is chased off by one little chicken. image #dogstr #chickens
Hey @nat brunell you are into origin stories. Check out this Farmington farm history. Really cool. My interest is not so much the tomatoes, more in their #chickens, They seem to have nailed that side of their business with traditional breeds. Keep it local.
Looking at Nostr.build for speeding up image use when posting on Nostr. On my first effort, the first thing I notice is the metadata left after it has been stripped out. Fair enough #Nostr.build for thinking of that. Bu here we go, another privacy lightbulb flashing!! Why do they offer that service? To save any snoops the trouble, hopefully all you can glean with your exif search tools is that this photo was taken a while ago and was sent from an image app on an Apple device to Nostr.build! Otherwise, you could probably have discovered hundreds of bits of data down to the location, altitude, and god knows what else. image
A couple of coop tips for those toying with becoming backyard chicken owners. If you are building a coop, the guiding principle is really simple. Chickens nest low and roost high. They would rather not lay eggs right on the ground, so lift the nest boxes 30cm or more. Saves on your back too when collecting eggs. If you can collect eggs from outside, that's a help. But there is a lot to be said for walking amongst your birds so you can keep an eye on how they are doing. They are natural busy bodies, not machines just to give you eggs. And don't place the roosts right up in the gods, if you can help it. They are clumsy as hell, and if they have a way to fall to the ground, they can dislocate legs. And perches are quite important. At a push of course they would spend a night on a precarious branch that is too small or too big for their claws to hook around, but long term give them a plank 4" wide and 2" deep. They will sleep better. and fall off less! #chickens #growstr #olivegroveeggs #olives
