Telling anyone who'll listen is a smaller pool of people than you think, because most people aren't actually listening even if they are looking at you. "Paying attention" is a payment. It's costly. And what it's being exchanged for has to be worth it.
The boy who cried wolf was ignored because he wasted people's attention on lies. Even the truth can seem dubious if it differs too much from what people already believe, and the villagers believed the boy only told lies.
You don't have to meet anyone's standards to express your opinion. "Your opinion doesn't matter if you haven't X, Y, or Z." is a signal that the person you're talking to is gay, no matter how much experience they have. And your opinion doesn't matter if you're gay.
