My recent artworks has been an interaction of ukiyo-e ("Pictures on the floating world") classic japanese style painting (like Hokusai) with the western impressionist movement (Turner, Monet). I see that these styles are complementary to and interesting to find that the Japanese art style influenced the western impressionists. Focus on the subject and eliminate excessive detail and complicated backgrounds. It's the original "flat" design. But I also feel that the impressionists captured the ethereal, the emotion and sense of time in a picture like no one else. That's why I find it interesting to combine the minimalist sober wabi sabi with western impressionism.
