Well, that was exciting yesterday afternoon. I was working on my truck engine reassembly when I heard the loudest explosion of a wreck on the highway I have heard in our years here. Truck hit SUV blind from the side and rolled the SUV. I was 3rd on scene and helped with the driver of the truck as he was out while the pregnant woman had to be cut from the SUV. Both went to the hospital but both will be okay with nothing real major. Thankfully the fire station is 1/2 mile west of the incident. #carcrash #emergency #firstaid #homesteading #mechanics #diy #hive #peakd #dailyblog

The reassembly began yesterday on the motor and I think it will go back together pretty easily. I watched the Fedex plane land in Spokane on Flightradar an hour ago that has my part so it will be here sometime today. (Hoping sooner than later!) The factory service manual is pretty solid so I'm not nearly as leary about the timing as I was. Still need to be very careful but it looks doable. SUPER stoked on the ice screws! Over $500 worth of screws for $160! So ready for next ice season! #mechanics #homesteading #diy #hive #peakd #dailyblog

Problem identified! Now the real fun begins, resetting the timing once the parts get here and I can put the engine back together. It was a $30 part that broke and with that just a piece of plastic was the actual problem. This all could have been SO MUCH WORSE so this is a little win in my book! #homesteading #diy #mechanics #hive #peakd #dailyblog

Old style pairings made for a seriously long day at the wrestling tournament yesterday. He ended up winning two matches and losing two matches and learned a good bit along the way. The waiting in between matches was the worst combined with the cacophony of sound that was almost constant for the 6 hours we were there. Thankfully the rest of hte tournaments are digital pairings. #wrestling #homesteading #3dprinting #hive #peakd #dailyblog

When all else fails, use a bigger wrench. It took the 36" pipe wrench and the new deep well socket to get the crank shaft bolt loose, and it did so rather easy feeling compared to the effort I put in with the smaller tools. Now the trouble of getting the timing cover off has me stumped. I can't be breaking or bending anything so am trying to be very careful, but it is not wanting to play nice. Something is holding it up above the crank shaft.... maybe the seal? or the sealant on the bottom surface? I'll work on it later and hopefully figure it out. #homesteading #mechanics #enginework #hive #peakd #dailyblog

Mornin #Nostr It March #Mechanics month for me it seems. Woke to the gate broken yesterday morning but it was a mellow fix thankfully. I managed to get the old #Subaru started, running, rolling, tuned up, licensed, insured, and now drying out the insides over night after the 5 years of sitting. THIS SPONGE IS MOBILE! The tool arrived for the crankshaft pulley but now I await the deep well socket today so I can use the huge pipe wrench I have to get the toque needed (185+ ft/lbs) toget the bolt loose. Then I can actually pull the timing cover to reveal my likely problems. #homesteading #diy #everythingallatonce #hive #peakd #dailyblog

I made a tool to try and get the crankshaft pulley loose yesterday but it just wasn't strong enough to break the 185+ft/lbs of torque the bolt is at... So I have a tool arriving today that will do the trick. I have other parts to work on removing today until it arrives. Of course the #3printer borked as well... When it rains problems and issues in life it seems to want to flood with them rather then a gentle sprinkle. #homesteading #mechanics #diy #hive #peakd #dailyblog

The battle continues as I tear down the engine. I only had a few hours yesterday to work on it amongst all the driving around during the day. It rained pretty good in the afternoon and I was super thankful for the canopy I setup. Today I have to get the water pump off to get the timing cover off then the head can come off... such a process. #hoemsteading #mechanics #autodoctor #hive #peakd #dailyblog

So far the prognosis is not looking good. I'm down to the OHCs but now have to pull timing and heads and everything else to get down deep and see just what the fuck broke. I really don't want to have to yard the entire motor out but if it is pistons then it will have to happen. FML! Only dim lights to the experience is I was at home when it broke, I have the facotry service manuals, and the knowledge and ability to do the work. #homesteading #mechanics #hive #peakd #dailyblog

FUCK!!! Something let go in the top end of my truck's engine. Sounds like a lifter let go. Now I have to dig into it and find out what the hell broke. SO PISSED! #mechanics #justfigures

Rare headache yesterday morning kept me from doing anything until it had subsided well after noon. It was very little surprise when Littler won the PDC UK Open and zero surprise when Man Utd lost once again. I had forgotten during the day so it was after dark when I went got the trailer hooked up for the grain run I have done this morning. #homesteading #pain #hive #peakd #dailyblog

As I see the rows of garlic growing so well it's really given me the itch to plant TONS more for next year. I'm looking to turn the farm into a serious spud and garlic producer. 1000 garlic this year should more than quadruple for next year. At that rate it will be about 3 years before the farm is stuffed with garlic rows. #homesteading #gardening #garllic #hive #peakd #dailyblog

The sheep and birds are extra happy with the piles of warm grain yesterday morning. Still warm after the brewing process I was able to finish coating the main garden with grain and had the extra for the animals. Once the ground has thawed enough I will till it all in and be ready to setup the irrigation and plastic cover. Hit Mistequa casino in the evening for date night and had a great meal and we walked out up a few dollars from gambling. We rarely go to casinos but we have a bunch of them in the region that have good specials running all the time. #homesteading #farming #hive #peakd #3dp #dailyblog

Well, the true sign Spring is here.... MY #GARLIC HAS POPPED! As I was putting the snowblower away and pulling the tiller out I found the tips of the garlic were poking through the pine needles I used for the winter cover. The needles were still frozen beneath but I still removed most of them. The 50f+ temps during the days will have them thawed quickly. Over 1000 will hopefully all pop, so far about half seem to be up. #homesteading #gardening #farming #hive #peakd #dailyblog

A lifelong dream came true yesterday with my oldest and best friend. For over 30 years we have wanted to climb ice and we finally made it happen. I lead my first water ice climb which is my first ice climb and possibly a first ascent of the falls. It's for sure a solid WI3 route and would be about 60 meters for what we climbed. I am so sore but my head is glowing still and I'm beyond stoked. #iceclimbing #climbing #firstascent #adventure #dreamcometrue #hive #peakd #dailyblog

Grain run yesterday morning and it all got spread in the garden where the birds attacked it all day. I still need a few barrels more to finish coating the main garden for the year. The creek has already peaked with the prior days rains and the tunnel is running much lower. There is still a heathy snow pack to come down but with the 50F temps the next week it will be a gradual melt. Now off to ice climb before it melts away. #homesterading #hive #peakd #dailyblog

The creek is blowing and going with all the snow melt and the tunnel is a good 2ft deep. It's been worse in prior years so this is not too abnormal, it's just this year winter was condensed into 2 weeks instead of 3 months and followed directly by the spring warmup. I'm hoping the mason bee house I printed out will actiually atract some this year. I just need to figure out the best place to put it so they will find it but the frames will be protected from the weather. #homesteading #diy #3dprinting #hive #peakd #dailyblog
