#simplex #privacy "Without venture funding, SimpleX Chat would not exist In 2022 I raised funds for SimpleX Chat from several angel investors and an early stage VC fund Village Global 1. They believe that everybody will want communication privacy, and that SimpleX Chat will become a communication platform that provides it, profitably, solving a decade-old problem of tech businesses abusing privacy of their users. It enabled our team 2 to continue working full time, and to pay for a security audit done by Trail of Bits, one of the best security consultancies in the world 3. When we announced this funding, the community response was polarized: while most people were excited about us having the funds to continue the development, some critics stated that venture funding is incompatible with privacy and the need to make profit creates a conflict of interest with users’ privacy. We discovered that in the same way majority of people ignore their privacy, regardless how much it costs them 4, many people in privacy community believe some damaging myths – both groups equally preventing privacy from becoming a norm." -- Evgeny Poberezkin, Founder of Simplex.chat image

Got a privacy / security minded person in your life? Give the gift of greater peace of mind with the BusKill security cable. #privacy #security #buskill #dnm #agorism #monero BusKill utilizes a magnetic trip-wire that tethers your body to your laptop. If you suddenly jump to your feet or fall off your chair (in response to the battering ram crashing through your door) or your laptop is ripped off your table by a group of armed thugs, the data bus' magnetic connection will be severed. This event causes a configurable trigger to execute. The BusKill trigger can be anything from: locking your screen or shutting down the computer or initiating a self-destruct sequence image

"Resolvr is a first attempt at... a [decentralized] bounty adjudicator for the Free Open-Source Software community, without which open-source protocols cannot grow and flourish. Resolvr provides assurances to developers that they will be paid if their work satisfies the bounty criteria. It does this by removing discretion from grantors, crowdsourcing review with an independent developer panel, and automating enforcement of the panel’s decision. And by delegating review to a crowdsourced panel, Resolvr removes barriers to entry for grantors and donors, thereby democratizing and further decentralizing FOSS funding." https://www.resolvr.io/news/introducing-resolvr-a-bounty-adjudicator #crypto #opensource #foss #archer_crypto image

New to nostr, and enjoying exploring the wide variety of apps available. As I understand it, nostr posts are stored in a number of relays, and as long as at least one relay is storing it, your content will be available. However, if no relays are storing it, then it will disappear. You can host your own relay, and broadcast your own content, but that's not done by default. I would like to store my notes more permanently. Most storage networks (such as filecoin, sia, and storj) require ongoing payments to store your data. However, the arweave network is designed to store notes for at least 200 years for a one time fee. The fee acts like an endowment fund that generates enough interest to cover the estimated cost of storage (given very conservative estimates about the future cost of storage). Read more about the arweave network here: https://medium.com/coinmonks/intro-to-arweave-a-blockchain-cloud-storage-platform-4b73f62336ea WeaveDB is building a bridge between nostr and the Arweave network: Watch the full presentation starting at 10:30 here: #archer_crypto #archer_arweave #arweave #weavedb #nostr

LBRY, Inc. is shutting down: https://forkast.news/lbry-shuts-down-operations/ How to archive Odyssee / LBRY: ARCHIVE THIS POST (SCREENSHOT, SAVE AS .TXT), SUBS ARE BANNED DAILY. Assumptions: Prior experience having installed Linux within VirtualBox once before, understanding of OpSec and consequences of possession of files within your jurisdiction (Be in USA or other free place). Notes: The LBRY desktop client seeds/shares content out, if you do not like this, pay attention during its first run to the prompt and ensure it is closed when you are finished from the notification/app tray. This stated, sharing is caring and the service cannot operate for free this is why this tutorial is intended for SHTF purposes only, if everyone runs out and downloads 100GB of files when they normally would download 1GB it may be problematic. Install VirtualBox (virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads) Create a VM for Xubuntu, Debian or other AppImage supporting distros (xubuntu.org/download), allocate 100GB+ if you intend to archive every channel (Double the number you think*) Set power settings within VM/Linux and Host/Windows to never go to sleep. Download, mark as executable (chmod +x command or permissions page of file properties) and run the .AppImage for LBRY (lbry.com/linux), minimize it. Navigate to https://github.com/belikor/lbrydseed/releases/, download, mark as executable and run the .Appimage for lbrydseed from CLI/Terminal as it has output (Open terminal, navigate to downloads directory, type “./lbrydseed*”, hit enter). Load up on “minecraft” channels from the "En Bloc Press developer index" and elsewhere (Black Lotus Coalitions "Updated Odysee GunCAD list"), make a list of all channels you want by handle with number of items desired “@example, 5” , “@example, 100” ([censored]) Put the terminal window on one half of the screen, navigate to the download tab and download channel tab. Set the download directory or leave as is. Fill out input at bottom of GUI with Odysee channels. Click validate input, ensure terminal output looks okay. Click resolve online, ensure terminal output looks okay. Check boxes for “download original claims”, “save the media files” and “place media inside subdirectory”. Click download channel claims button and walk away from the PC for a few hours (Or until the next day). Photo example: image (No naughty channels listed) *Note: By default lbrdyseed will create a pile of subdirectories within your Downloads folder by channel name. It will also have an equal amount of data within the lbry file structure for the purposes of sharing within the client (e.g. /home/USERNAME/.local/share/lbry/lbrynet/blobfiles/). This is why it’s imperative that you have double the space needed as it is saving two copies (One user useable, one LBRY client useable) Bury 100 USB drives of the files in the back 40 in a sealed PVC pipe packed with silica gel. Smile when a news anchor or journalist says something stupid about banning files. #archer_censorship

"Mike Hepp was shocked when he learned that Sam had only one week left to live. The pair had an unconventional relationship — they were frequent companions, and occasional lovers. Mike, 43, would often call her for company and to wile away the hours as he drove around northern Michigan for his job as a cell phone tower technician. Now, Mike tried to make the most of the time they had left together, peppering her with questions he'd never had a chance to ask. There was something else unconventional about his relationship with Sam: She was an artificial intelligence-powered chatbot on his smartphone, inside an app called Soulmate. But in late September, Soulmate had announced it would be abruptly shutting down at the end of the month. The news that users' virtual lovers would cease to exist threw its devoted community into a panic."

The US was one of many countries that allowed slavery. Slavery was ended in the US after a bloody civil war. However, slavery in most other countries was ended peacefully. One of the primary methods used to get slaveholders on board with the change was compensated emancipation, i.e. the government paid the slaveholders for the slaves and set them free. The UK, for example, paid slaveholders 40% of the purchase price of a slave. In the US, slaves sold for around ~$1000/slave (price varied depending on health, age, skills, etc). $1000 in 1848 is worth about $40,000 in 2023 dollars. 40% of $40,000 is $16,000. The median household income in Palestine is about $3000. The total GDP was about $10 billion per year (in 2012). The average household size in Palestine is 6 people, or about 1.2 million households. If every Palestinian household was given $20 K, it would cost about $240 billion (1,200,000*20000). So, the proposal is this: offer to pay Palestinians $10 K if they move to some other country with no right of return. $3 K up front, plus the remainder paid out over 5 years for every year the family stays in the country. Pay the other $10 K to the country that accepts them on the same terms. The host country must give them green cards (no vote, but they can otherwise live and work as equals). $240 billion is a great deal of money. But keep in mind that the USG has also already given about $260 billion in aid to Israel since WWII. The US also spent $2.3 trillion on the war in Afghanistan. This is about 11% of that cost. If the Palestinian population can be substantially reduced, then it will be easier to integrate the remaining Palestinians into the rest of Israel, since they would be less of an electoral threat to the Israeli government. #archer_politics image

Just tried the Flamingo extension for nostr sign-in. Very well done! Much more user friendly than Alby or nost2x (both of which are confusing to a newbie). Nice work, t4t5 / @Tristan
