Someone said something in a reply that stuck with me: “Kids need to learn something that’s a struggle for them… They need to experience what it’s like to push through it and get the feeling of accomplishment at the end.” That’s exactly it. Making things isn’t just about skills… it’s about learning how to keep going when it’s not easy. #grownostr #diy

Got a great reply on my last post… someone said their kids are carving wood and totally stoked about it. That’s what learning should feel like. Somewhere along the way, we replaced curiosity with worksheets. What’s one project or skill you think every kid should experience before they graduate? What do you think? Comment below.👇 #asknostr #grownostr #diy

I keep thinking about how much education has moved toward screens and away from making real things. Do you think kids still want to learn hands-on stuff if given the chance? I would love to know what people think! Comment below 👇 #asknostr #diy #grownostr #coffeechain

You can’t plan every cut… Just start your project… Fix what breaks or goes off course and learn fast. That’s how real skill is built.

Lasers on woodworking tools? It’s a gimmick, to upsell the tool. I have yet to see a laser on a tool that really helps… Then they go out a year later. Do you like lasers on tools? Comment below 👇 #woodworking #grownostr

In Loveland, Colorado… I give you a giant banana bronze sculpture. Loveland is known for its bronze sculptures and the foundries that make them. This is one of the bronzes in their sculpture park. The interesting thing is the yellow is not paint… It is a patina, that is a chemical reaction to the metal that colors the bronze. It has been done for hundreds of years. #artstr #grownostr image

TOOL TIP TUESDAY: Everyone needs a little bit of organization in their shop. However, buying holders can get rather expensive. In today’s tool tip, I will show you a very cheap and inexpensive tool holder that can be made from parts from the hardware store. All you need are some drywall screws that are the length that you would need for the tool holder and some 1/4 inch plastic drip irrigation line. 1️⃣ Cut the irrigation line to about 1/2 inch less than the threaded part of the screw. 2️⃣ Insert screw thread into the plastic irrigation line. 3️⃣ Screw the drywall screw in into the place where you want to hang the tool. Make sure at least a half inch of the thread goes into the wood or substrate. You now have a hanger that is inexpensive and will protect your tool from getting damaged or lost. Cheers! #grownostr #tools #diy #woodworking

“If it can’t be fixed with duct tape, you’re not using enough of it.” Duct tape is often the punch line of many jokes… Often, associated with shall we say… not really doing a good job. You know the one thing that really requires duct tape? Air ducting in your house… I know weird, huh? That’s what it’s really used on. Not ducks… 🦆 #diy #grownostr image
