The new pop discourse is around "assassin culture," but that's a messy term.
I saw the pivot ca. 2020 with the "punch a Nazi" dialogue, where consensus grew among certain groups that committing an evil (unprovoked physical violence) is morally permissible because it brings about a desirable outcome (owning a "Nazi"). This is really just utilitarian pragmatism in contemporary clothing, and is nothing new, even if it speaks to a weakened moral formation.
Rule #1 of Morality: Do no evil.
Rule #2 is implied via the first, but apparently needs to be reaffirmed: Do no evil such that good may come of it.
I used to start my work morning reading the paper, catching up on the news. Now I've abandoned the news and simply just scroll my Nostr timeline.
