When you claim “I own some bitcoin,” what do you actually possess—especially since no physical or even discrete digital “bitcoins” exist as tangible items? Bitcoin maintains a public, distributed ledger (the blockchain) that records unspent transaction outputs (UTXOs), tracking which amounts are assignable to specific addresses. There are no individual “coins” sitting somewhere; the system simply enforces rules about who can authorize changes to those ledger entries. What you truly control—and therefore own—is the cryptographic private key (or the seed phrase that deterministically generates it). This private key is the mathematical secret that lets you create a valid digital signature to authorize moving value from associated addresses on the ledger. Your wallet software forced you to record those “strange words” (the seed phrase, usually 12–24 words from the BIP-39 wordlist) for a reason: those words represent your private key(s). They are the functional equivalent of your bitcoin. Control the private key, and you can command the ledger to reassign the value to any other address. Lose it (or have it stolen), and that value becomes inaccessible or belongs to whoever now holds the key. For all practical purposes, your private keys are your bitcoin. Possession and control of the key is what defines ownership in this system—there is no other bearer instrument or intermediary asset. The Sovereign Spirit No man-made statute, code, or regulation constitutes true law in the sense of binding sovereign people (living men and women under common law jurisdiction). What exists instead are merely rules and regulations crafted by entities claiming authority, which apply exclusively to those who have knowingly or unknowingly consented to become members of a specific artificial society or association. Any group—be it a private club, corporation, or purported “government”—can draft bylaws, statutes, or ordinances and label them as binding within their own domain. This drafting grants no intrinsic right to impose those constructs upon non-consenting people who are simply living their lives in accordance with natural rights and common law, without voluntarily entering the association. The so-called “state” or “government” to which these rules are attached is, in essence, nothing more than an oversized membership organization or commercial entity operating in the realm of contract and commerce. Its claimed authority rests solely on the extent to which it can coerce compliance through its self-proclaimed monopoly on initiatory force and violence—not on any inherent moral or natural legitimacy. True sovereignty resides in you, the living man or woman, as it always has. It's just humorous to me how much vanity exists on social platforms. It's all about that body which is not the self. Everyone has a body (vehicle) which will be a different body in old age, and a different body after death.
