Anyone know what's up with the Firefox fork Fennec? I got a warning the other day that there were security vulnerabilities in the app, and upon checking when the last version was compiled it was in August. The source code link just takes me to Mozilla's repos.
Disabled the app and switched browsers for the moment, but wanted to know if anybody knows what's going on with it. If not, anybody know of any other Android Firefox forks that cut Mozilla things out?

Random person on the internet. I sometimes blog or work on projects I might talk about here.
Made a hacked together Python client for Nostr, ActivityPub, & AT:

Notes (20)

Finished a new blog post, basically just a verbose version of my notes that accumulated while experimenting with local LLMs and similar AI tools for translation, proofreading, summarizing, and transcribing content locally.

Kind of random announcement, but I've been working on (an amateur attempt at) a novel. It's free to read/download, and I've finished the first 36 chapters if anybody is interested in checking it out. It's sorta Scifi-ish wtih some action action and fantasy elements.
https://untitlednovel.dns7.top/contents/
I also uploaded it to Postman's I2P tracker, so it's available there in .txt form as well. The website does use cloudflare pages, although the DDOS protection has been set to be much less trigger happy so it should work in Tor. No ads, and no tracking minus Cloudflare itself.
If you want to read more as it comes out you can sub via RSS https://untitlednovel.dns7.top/index.xml or via Nostr at

A #blog post by Simon Wilson on #notebooklm . An interesting thing to toy around with, even if it's not all that practical.

New try, let's see if this works. Hello BlueSky & Mastodon via Nostr on Amethyst 😀
I'm toying around with making a python script that pretends to be a #nostr relay and let's your client post on #bluesky or a #fediverse instance.
https://github.com/0n4t3/nipy-bridge btw
But it dawned on me, lol, #mastodon doesn't even have quote posts yet and I just bridged a Nostr quote post in. It's not really a quote post - the quoted post is just converted to an njump.me link to provide context to what the user was quoting - but it's still a little funny.

It was in near perfect perfect conditions, but wow, that's a pretty long range connection.

It sounds really engaging, unfortunately, lol, it was very inaccurate.

#blog post going over how I made a fur hat a little while back.
A bit different from the usual tech stuff, but a fun #diy project.
A bit different from the usual tech stuff, but a fun #diy project. Was curious how many BlueSky/AT PDSs are being self hosted, wound up finding my blog on the second page of Bing. That was majorly cool.
Of course I wrote it so if my blog actually contained the information I wouldn't be making the search, and the fact I'm on the darkest of places known as the second page of Bing means I couldn't find the information elsewhere. But still a cool find.

I'm late to the party, but if you haven't seen looks like #bluesky / #at has been getting some rapid growth, to the tune of at least 1 mil over a few days.

Also, quick PSA: don't forget the Mostr bridge will let you follow Bluesky accounts.

The concept of losing safe harbor protection is not a comforting thought, lol, if nobody's noticed yet there's a lotta' weirdos on the internet.

Giving npub.pro a try, so far very cool. Haven't published any long form content on nostr as of yet, but set up a microblog theme and it looks pretty sleek. It's free if you're fine using a subdomain, and the repo looks somewhat new and lacks instructions yet but looks like you can/will be able to self host.

New #blog post talking about social media protocols like #ActivityPub, #Nostr, and #AT (Bluesky). It's not entirely new, I posted a comparison in January, but this updated version fixes two mistakes I made and is updated to reflect some changes that occurred since the original post.
Also, as with my previous post, obligatory original meme to accompany the post.

Hey #nostr can I waste your time for a sec? It's a mildly amusing waste of time. Anyway, I've been playing around with Suno, an AI bot that can make songs, and also been working on a revised version of a blog post on microblogging protocols since the old one had a few things wrong and was getting out of date. Wound up writing some random lyrics and told it to make me a sea shanty, so without further ado I bring you the "Silly Goose Protocol Song"
https://nate.mecca1.net/assets/silly_goose_protocol_song.mp3
Had a couple of points where it got hung up on pronunciation or messed up the lyrics a tad, but it turned out surprisingly well. Thought it was funny and didn't want to wait until the updated blog post to share.
