Introductions to 6 genres by writers such as Poul Anderson, Michael Moorcock, C.J. Cherryh, Anne McCaffrey, Gerald Page, and Alan Dean Foster. Tons of cover art and concept sketches. This was originally published in 1979, so it’s Michael’s early works.

I finished my March Hare for @existing sprinkles 2026 Calendar Challenge… which I will be continuing on into 2026 so I can make a calendar for 2027. 😬 Went a bit simpler on this piece than January or February. The hand-written sentences in the background are the first lines from the stories in one of my microfiction collections. The iris is from a collection of vintage flower plates from Kew Gardens. And I didn’t color the hare to emphasize the engraving illustration style. Added up my daily walking miles for last month: 56!!! 🚶 Adding another 500 steps per day to my goal for this month, which takes me up to 5,000 steps/day or about 2.2 miles/3.5 km. Yesterday was an exception: over 7,000 steps because I went Christmas shopping. 🧑‍🎄🎄🎁 As with my art challenges, I made a tracker for my 10k steps goal. I prefer genre fiction to non-fiction, but this book about a painter’s winter on the Arctic island of Spitsbergen with her husband in 1934 is top notch. Beautiful imagery describing the landscape and subtle touches of humor fill the chapters. My trip to Svalbard next year will be far more luxurious than her stays in hunters’ huts scattered across the north coast, but I hope to see and feel some of the wonders she describes. #bookstr #polar #arctic #biography #diary
