A slight expansion on one of @average_bitcoiner 's thoughts.... Privacy is about maintaining human dignity in an age of total surveillance....It is about ensuring that every citizen has the tools to defend their minds and souls in the 5th Generation War we are currently fighting. With a major battlefield being fought indiscriminately with anti-human tactics inside every living mind and soul. The casualties from propaganda and algorithm skirmishes are our friends and neighbors now wounded with nihilism, depression, radicalization, trans humanist mental inclinations, etc. They were ambushed in a war they didn't know had started. How do we pull them off the line? Care for and help them heal? How do we help the survivors upgrade armor and sharpen defensive tactics? View article →

Why is nobody is talking about the Butlerian Jihad? Relevant and a decent framing for AI safety discussions and....... crickets.

In my humble opinion, required listening every Labor Day. In August 1921, 10,000-20,000 armed coal miners marched on Mingo County, West Virginia to lift the martial law imposed there, free their jailed brethren, and avenge the assassination of one of their local heroes. At least 20,000 more wives, young boys and other civilians followed the army providing medical, logistical and other services. Before it was over, they would storm a mountainside under fire from entrenched machine guns, and while being bombed from the air. It was the largest and most serious armed insurrection in US history since the Civil War. This episode is going to discuss the West Virginia Coal Mine Wars, and The Battle of Blair Mountain.
