If anyone is searching for an awesome board game to play with friends and family, I couldn't recommend Root: A Game of Woodland Might and Right enough. At first glance, it might seem complicated, but everyone manages their own faction, each with its own unique playstyle and strategy. Despite these differences, all factions seamlessly interact with one another on the same board. Layered on top of that is a social component with informal alliances and truces. Everyone negotiates their way through the game to ensure no one else wins too quickly, all while pursuing the ultimate goal of winning themselves. The tension is heightened by the fact that it pays to pay attention to another faction's playstyle to understand where they are in their strategy. This is made possible by the fact that other than your hand, everyone's setup is public information. Trying multiple different factions and learning how they work will give you an edge. Combine all that with expansion packs featuring new factions, maps, and cards, and you have near-endless scenarios to play. Again, I cannot recommend this game enough!

Got another hike in at the Grand Canyon south rim. Started at Hermit's Trailhead and made it down to the fork (7 miles down where Hermit meets Tonto) before I had to turn back. Just barely caught the last bus back to the parking lot. It was quite the exhausting learning experience. While I was never close to running out of water or food, by canyon hiking standards I'm very much flying by the seat of my pants. More thought will go into my next canyon hike in terms of preparation.

Me whenever the weather gets even slightly gloomy. For real though... I don't consider myself to be particularly prone to seasonal blues, but whenever I'm driving down a gray, ugly expressway with a gray sky and I'm surrounded by ugly city architecture that's either downright brutalist or adjacent, I start to think like this guy. I just remember that above it all, it's perpetually a bright, sunny day. Flying out of an airport under these conditions and emerging above the cloud layer into sunlight is downright cathartic.
