Happened to catch some second-hand Candace Owens and Dan Bongino this morning. I'm as conspiritorially-minded as the next guy but... mainstream conservative commentary has gone completely off the deep end.

Just released Flotilla 1.8.1! The big change this time around is support for roles (also added to zooid). This allows relay admins to create and assign roles for relay members. If that sounds like something you'd like to support as well, take a look at this draft NIP:

Allows relays to define roles and for admins to manage/assign/unassign members to those roles.

Adding roles means that my old member list dialogs are no longer sufficient, so I've added both a dashboard and a directory to flotilla spaces. A little bonus here is that the dashboard allows admins to set "featured" content to show up there — this can handle nevents, links, or just text. Bitcoin is fundamentally unlike its successors: token speculation, wealth transfer via stablecoin, and prediction markets. It rewards patience and a deep understanding of the structural flaws of the late-stage fiat economy. At the same time, bitcoin had its part in begetting all these aberrations. Yes, they are fiat insanity, but remain fundamentally linked to bitcoin, the first cryptocurrency. People like to blame ETH for the proliferation of altcoins, but bitcoin is the grand-daddy of them all. Jesus says in Luke 6, "For a good tree does not bear bad fruit, nor does a bad tree bear good fruit. For every tree is known by its own fruit. For men do not gather figs from thorns, nor do they gather grapes from a bramble bush." Jesus is not committing the genetic fallacy (which is discrediting the effects based on an assessment of the source). He is identifying that actions have consequences. Europe is adopting open source and open protocols, not to promote individual sovereignty, but to protect European sovereignty from foreign influence. This is not what these technologies were built for; "promoting democracy" does not protect the rights of individuals. The technology listed is federated, not radically open (like nostr is). In particular, ATProto has provided the EU with the perfect opportunity to signal openness while simultaneously standing up a new walled garden in which dystopian "moderation policies" will be the norm.

Check it out, just released nq (Nostr Quora), a web application for managing a FROST multisig quorum over a nostr key. I've occasionally seen people asking for this for years now, and I don't think any of the existing FROST projects really tick all the boxes (correct me if I'm wrong though). This tool uses DKG to ensure that no member holds the complete key material, and allows for rotating members in/out. It also has quorum chat (using NIP 17) so that you can have a conversation about proposed events. I recommend you create a separate nostr key when using this, not just because this is alpha software (90% vibe coded protocol and code), but also because these messages will clutter your NIP 17 DMs and vice versa. On the call I shared my personal read on the situation in good faith, which is that the OpenSats nostr committee would prefer not to fund the same project multiple times. @jb55 came away with the impression that I was a spokesman of OpenSats telling him Damus would not get any more grants ever. I corrected this in private, and several grants were subsequently paid to various members of the Damus team, demonstrably falsifying his interpretation. And yet several years later he is still bringing this up. This was a learning experience for me. If you're on a board or committee, don't talk about internal politics; you are unavoidably speaking on behalf of everyone else on the committee, and therefore inevitably subject to misinterpretation. Instead of dunking on zcash for having a bug I think we should be thanking them for risking their bags to experiment with pioneering privacy tech.
