Out here in the middle of nowhere.
Check out the Glass Gem popcorn I grew this year.

Overnight storms knocked out power for three hours and dropped a tree in our drive. Daughter’s car came through without a scratch.
Never a dull moment around here.

Picked sandhill plums today with the wife. It’s hot and prickly work but the jam will be appreciated!

Time for a brew, soak, music and watching the stars come out. GN ya’ll. May you have dreams of orange.

Freeze dried some fresh Colorado peaches. They turned out great!

Thanksgiving turkey’s arrived a little later than planned due to a USPS mistake on shipping the original batch. They all perished in transit unfortunately.
Today we received the replacement shipment albeit a few weeks later than hoped. We’ll give it a go and see what growth we get before butchering in 3.5 months.
Most of our customers do appreciate a smaller bird so we should be good to go!

GM. It’s gonna be a hot one today. Hydrate and touch grass.

Our raspberries have really impressed this year so we decided to try freeze drying some. I gotta say, the freeze drying really enhanced the flavor but also the tartness. Really good in our homemade yogurt though!
Has anyone else tried freeze drying fruit? What’s your favorite? We love watermelon, apples and peaches.

Success! Feels good to rebuild old technology and bring it back to life.

Been rebuilding the engine on my old Ford tractor. It’s cooler in the shop today since we had rain showers so I was able to make good progress. Time for a refreshment and a dip in the stock tank.

Got our onions and garlic harvested. We’ll freeze dry some and make powders and the rest will remain whole and be put in storage for use as needed.

Interesting coin my dad found at an old stagecoach stop in western Kansas back in the early 1970’s. He found a fee US coins as well but this one has always kept me wondering.
I recently used AI to help identify it.
Here’s what I found out about it:
Obverse (Side with Chinese Characters)
The Chinese characters read 光緒通寶 (Guāng Xù Tōng Bǎo):
• 光緒 (Guāng Xù): Refers to the Guangxu Emperor, who ruled during the Qing Dynasty from 1875 to 1908.
• 通寶 (Tōng Bǎo): A term meaning “circulating treasure” or “currency.”
So this side means: “Guangxu Era Coin” or “Guangxu Currency.”
Reverse (Side with Script-like Symbols)
This side features Manchu script, the official script of the Qing Dynasty alongside Chinese. These symbols usually indicate the mint location where the coin was cast.
Based on the shape and structure of the Manchu characters, this coin was likely minted at Board of Revenue mint (寶源局 / Bao Yuan Ju) in Beijing, which was the central mint during the Qing dynasty.
⸻
Summary:
• Type: Qing Dynasty cash coin
• Era: Guangxu Emperor (1875–1908)
• Mint: Likely Board of Revenue (Beijing)
• Material: Usually cast in bronze or brass
• Translation: “Guangxu Circulating Treasure”
