Has anyone game theorized another country ‘invading’ the United States, significantly damaging government/military infrastructure, and instead of trying to subjugate US citizens, the foreign adversary instead offers US citizens better terms? Patriotic Americans are loyal to the culture and the country, not to the government. If another country offers everything to stay the same, all US taxes absolved, all debts absolved, and there’s a universal 20% sales tax that goes to the conquering country, a lot of people would be caught off guard there.
