Morning beach walk complete.

Gm! I slept just on 7 hours straight. Soooo good as I am usually up at least once so it’s rare that I get to enjoy uninterrupted sleep for a stretch like that. It’s still dark and as I made my way to the kitchen to get the coffee going I caught a glimpse of an unusually large celestial object. Turns out it is Venus. Very impressive sight and a great way to start the day!

I haven’t played for nearly 10 years. Surprised that I still have some muscle memory, but boy oh boy am I rusty 😬😬😬

Gm😃 A public holiday today so a slow start. Basic direction for the day is that I am going to make a tiramisu and then drive 1.5 hours with my bestie to an olive grove and spend the afternoon/evening around a fire, eating good food and chatting with nice people 😎

I hear quite a bit of chatter around human meaning and purpose being challenged in the upcoming AI and robotics explosion. The idea is that it will quickly dawn on large swaths of populations that their “new” reality is somehow meaningless and without purpose because humans will be needed less than ever to keep societal structures running. The idea that, for instance, most nurses will suddenly find their lives meaningless and without purpose suggests that most nurses had nursing as their sole ambition is life, the only thing that they ever wanted to do. Reality is that nursing was a way to contribute to a bigger idea based around family or travel or job security. I am not saying that some nurses don’t see their chosen profession as a calling, what I am saying is that most people do what they do for a reason that is bigger than their profession. This implies meaning and purpose is bubbling away at a base layer level. This is where IMO a Universal Basic Income comes in as a way to ease the stress of the upcoming AI transition. I currently contend that a UBI will help people continue to feed the systems that are necessary to support their sense of meaning and purpose, things like caring for their elderly or infant dependents, keeping roofs over their heads and food on the table. Meaning and purpose for populations are indirectly tied to economics. That is why I don’t trust anyone (at this stage) who says that a UBI is not a good strategy for the majority moving forward.
