23 🇩🇰 Studying for a degree in Software Engineering while building fun projects and working freelance as a News Photographer 📷 I share my software projects, photos and videos from my work as a news photographer, and progress updates as I learn to sew garments. Basically, I just write about my hobbies. frederikhandberg.com
I’ve started my sewing machine #business again. It’s a side hustle where I’m selling industrial sewing machines. Took a break from it because it was clear I had sold machines to so many people that there just weren’t any customers left. But last week, I started the business again. I ordered one machine to begin with (just to see if there was any interest) and sold it immediately after receiving it. Then I ordered two more machines, which I should receive on Thursday. Will be interesting to see how fast they get sold. It’s a nice way to bring in some extra income while I’m studying. Also, it’s a lot of fun! View quoted note →
Upvote and downvote (or like and dislike) buttons to rank comments and replies seem problematic, because critical opinions or unpopular truths often get downvoted into oblivion. Not necessarily because they’re wrong, but because they go against the majority view (just look at #Reddit. I’ve seen this happen countless times). But then, how can comments and replies be ranked so that the most relevant ones are shown first?
The question is, if everyone came to Nostr and used a client that let them tell an LLM what they want in their timeline, would they exclude brain-rot, or are people naturally drawn to it? The cool thing about Nostr (and other open protocols) is that the people are in control, not a company. I think it’s likely, we’ll see a client with the functionality I have described before, regarding an LLM you can tell what you want in your timeline, which then builds a custom recommendation algorithm tailored just for you. #AI #LLM #algorithm View quoted note →
Great video. Though I think the big problem is centralized social media platforms, because they control the algorithm. These platforms are incentivized to make the algorithm as addictive as possible, which is why people spend hours and hours a day on TikTok. #socialmedia
Open protocols (*cough* Nostr *cough*) are the only real safeguard against government censorship and overreach (especially with mandatory ID verification which might become law in the UK and EU). Centralized platforms (Meta, YouTube, Reddit, etc.) will not be able to avoid these rules. Open protocols are far harder to regulate, but they are not immune. I expect the government to target relay operators and the developers of client apps. I guess remaining anonymous is going to be necessary for relay operators and Nostr devs.
I think Nostr works great as a personal blog. At least, that’s how I am using it. Then I use `nostr-tools` and `nostr-react` to fetch my Nostr posts and display them on my Next.js website.

Finished Cyberpunk 2077 and uninstalled it right after (at least I completed all the main missions). I feel like gaming is a horrible hobby, or at least, it is for me. Which is also why I stopped gaming years ago, but then I saw Cyberpunk 2077 was released on Mac, and I thought that was super cool to see a AAA game on macOS. I already had the game on Steam from years ago when it first released (never finished it because it was so buggy on release), so I thought, might as well give it a try to see how it would run on a MacBook Pro – it runs with no problems, even on native resolution on my ultrawide monitor. I feel like gaming is a bad hobby for me because of multiple reasons. I guess the biggest reason is just that I feel I’m completely wasting my time. I don’t learn ANYTHING from gaming – this obviously depends on the game you play. When I was much younger and still learning English, gaming and watching YouTube videos were certainly where I learned the most (it was definitely not from sitting in class listening to the teacher…) I just prefer doing something that is productive and I gain a skill from doing it. But can’t be productive all the time. Sometimes you really just need to relax, but then I would much rather just watch a movie, because then I can actually relax, which I can’t when gaming, because then I’m stressing to be the best. Another reason is that I already sit so much in front of my computer, because I study software engineering and from doing my hobby software development projects, so it’s not like I’m wanting to look at a screen anymore than I already do… #gaming View quoted note →

Been playing Cyberpunk 2077 on my MacBook Pro. I’m amazed at how well it runs. No lag spikes at all. 60 fps without frame-gen enabled. I think that’s super impressive. But… once I start a new game, I have a really hard time stopping until I finished it (completed all missions). This is a big reason why I stopped gaming. However, I thought it was so cool to see a AAA game releasing on macOS, so I had to try it out to see how well it runs. #gaming
I use AI often when coding. It certainly speeds up my workflow. Not that it’s perfect. I rarely ask an LLM to implement a complex feature, as it usually requires debugging to a degree where, I might as well just implement it myself. Funny enough, I don’t use an editor like Cursor. Maybe I should. Remember trying it like 9 months ago, but ended up uninstalling it and going back to VSCode. Idk, just didn’t find it that impressive. Then I tried Zed editor (zed.dev) not too long ago. Still have it installed and I do use it occasionally. It’s really pretty to look at (I have a blurry background theme and it looks so good). Some people might not care, but I use a code editor basically every single day, so it’s nice having something that doesn’t look like trash. Just makes it more pleasing to look at all day long. But its AI implementation is not that good. If I want to accept an AI suggestion, I must accept the whole thing, whereas in VSCode, I can accept word by word. So if it writes something that starts correct, but is completely wrong at the end, then I don’t need to accept the whole code snippet – that’s kinda nice. The really nice thing about Zed is that it’s so lightweight and feels super snappy compared to VSCode.
I generally just dislike when browsers are cluttered with shit. I feel the same way with Brave browser including a wallet and VPN. I know you can disable and hide it, but it’s just annoying. I don’t want that integrated in the browser I use. Obviously, I realize browsers are difficult to monetize, so integrating stuff like a VPN and AI is a simple way to charge a subscription fee… View quoted note →
I really dislike AI in browsers. I think it’s just annoying. Been trying the Dia browser for the past few weeks. The UI is good. It looks beautiful just like Arc (RIP 🪦). But the integrated AI is so annoying. If I search for something and click enter, it often opens the LLM instead of Google. I JUST WANT A BASIC, MINIMALISTIC, AND BEAUTIFUL BROWSER WITHOUT AI CRAP! 💩
I think likes are such an irrelevant metric here on Nostr… I don’t think it makes much sense to have that on a decentralized protocol. Not to mention, once you like something, you can’t unlike it. But also, just the fact that the metric is inaccurate (since you need to query from literally all relays to get an accurate number). However, even if you do query all relays to get an accurate like-counter, it still doesn’t matter, as creating bot accounts on Nostr is super easy (only requires a little Python script). Then, you can get all bots to smash the like button…
I have a desktop PC with an RTX3090, Threadripper 3990x, and 64GB of ram, but the thing is, I never use it as I’m not a gamer anymore… I don’t use it for work either, because I prefer my MacBook Pro. I think it’s time to wipe the NVMe and install Linux on it. Then, I’ll install something like `text-generation-webui` and run an AI model. I will then fetch all notes from users I follow and feed each note to the AI model. The model should then return a relevance score (1-10) based on my description of the content I wish to see in my timeline. In that way, I will (hopefully) be able to build a recommendation algorithm to only show me notes in my timeline, that I would actually want to see. It’s gonna be a fun experiment! #AI #LLM View quoted note →
I would love to learn what kind of compute it takes to run an algorithm with an LLM that can curate me a timeline of exactly what I want to see here on Nostr. Basically, I tell the LLM what I like, and then the AI curates a timeline based on my description. Some people hate algorithms and just wants their timeline to be chronologically from newest to oldest posts, but that’s not what I want. The vast majority of what I see on social media (including Nostr) is just noise that brings me no value and I’d rather not see that at all. I prefer having an algorithm, but only if I’m in control! #algorithms #AI #LLM
