On my personal website, I have a blog section, where I fetch and display all my Nostr posts. Tonight, I’ve been working on fetching replies, so that I can display those for each of my posts. It’s crazy how easy it is to work with Nostr. The protocol is so simple, which is one of its big advantages. I will work on making the UI look nicer tomorrow before pushing to production. #dev #Nostr

I wonder if social media will eventually be seen like cigarettes. Something we all know is harmful and addictive, but many still can’t stop doing.

I want to learn #sewing as a hobby. I think it would be a good hobby, because it’s creative and not related to technology, except for designing and pattern drafting. For that, I use an application called CLO3D. Right now, I’m looking into which sewing machines I would need. I’ve sold so many machines through my little business which has allowed me to try a lot of different brands. I’ve come to like a brand called Jack. Very similar to Juki (which is the industry-standard), but much cheaper and feels more modern in terms of features and the way their machines are engineered. The problem is, there are so many different garments I’d like to sew from sweatshirts, denim jackets and jeans, to outerwear jackets and pants. This would require different machines since the fabric used for sweatshirts is much lighter than 16oz denim for a denim jacket. View quoted note →

I’ve started my sewing machine #business again. It’s a side hustle where I’m selling industrial sewing machines. Took a break from it because it was clear I had sold machines to so many people that there just weren’t any customers left. But last week, I started the business again. I ordered one machine to begin with (just to see if there was any interest) and sold it immediately after receiving it. Then I ordered two more machines, which I should receive on Thursday. Upvote and downvote (or like and dislike) buttons to rank comments and replies seem problematic, because critical opinions or unpopular truths often get downvoted into oblivion. Not necessarily because they’re wrong, but because they go against the majority view (just look at #Reddit. I’ve seen this happen countless times). But then, how can comments and replies be ranked so that the most relevant ones are shown first?

The question is, if everyone came to Nostr and used a client that let them tell an LLM what they want in their timeline, would they exclude brain-rot, or are people naturally drawn to it? The cool thing about Nostr (and other open protocols) is that the people are in control, not a company. I think it’s likely, we’ll see a client with the functionality I have described before, regarding an LLM you can tell what you want in your timeline, which then builds a custom recommendation algorithm tailored just for you. #AI #LLM #algorithm View quoted note →

Great video. Though I think the big problem is centralized social media platforms, because they control the algorithm. These platforms are incentivized to make the algorithm as addictive as possible, which is why people spend hours and hours a day on TikTok. #socialmedia

Open protocols (*cough* Nostr *cough*) are the only real safeguard against government censorship and overreach (especially with mandatory ID verification which might become law in the UK and EU). Centralized platforms (Meta, YouTube, Reddit, etc.) will not be able to avoid these rules. Open protocols are far harder to regulate, but they are not immune. I expect the government to target relay operators and the developers of client apps. I guess remaining anonymous is going to be necessary for relay operators and Nostr devs.

I think Nostr works great as a personal blog. At least, that’s how I am using it. Then I use `nostr-tools` and `nostr-react` to fetch my Nostr posts and display them on my Next.js website.

Finished Cyberpunk 2077 and uninstalled it right after (at least I completed all the main missions). I feel like gaming is a horrible hobby, or at least, it is for me. Which is also why I stopped gaming years ago, but then I saw Cyberpunk 2077 was released on Mac, and I thought that was super cool to see a AAA game on macOS. I already had the game on Steam from years ago when it first released (never finished it because it was so buggy on release), so I thought, might as well give it a try to see how it would run on a MacBook Pro – it runs with no problems, even on native resolution on my ultrawide monitor. I feel like gaming is a bad hobby for me because of multiple reasons. I guess the biggest reason is just that I feel I’m completely wasting my time. I don’t learn ANYTHING from gaming – this obviously depends on the game you play. When I was much younger and still learning English, gaming and watching YouTube videos were certainly where I learned the most (it was definitely not from sitting in class listening to the teacher…) I just prefer doing something that is productive and I gain a skill from doing it. But can’t be productive all the time. Sometimes you really just need to relax, but then I would much rather just watch a movie, because then I can actually relax, which I can’t when gaming, because then I’m stressing to be the best. Another reason is that I already sit so much in front of my computer, because I study software engineering and from doing my hobby software development projects, so it’s not like I’m wanting to look at a screen anymore than I already do… #gaming View quoted note →
