Though it has a good track record, maybe Sci-Fi doesn't 'predict' the future, rather:
Maybe clear imagination is a precursor to coherent action, so stories about how the future unfolds already being 'installed' in everyone's heads beforehand vastly increases the likelihood that that is exactly the way things do unfold. Because any other path is not the one of least resistance.
Vision is the (first) hard part, and people that can't comprehend it takes vision to do something novel will always mistake everything downstream of the vision as 'the important part'. They're fish in water. Unknowingly living in someone else's vision.
So sci-fi, fiction in general, is laying down a road. When someone walks that direction, they could walk through the bushes and weeds, but why do that when there's this nice road here??
You're alive, reality is real, and it's all right here.
