Everything comes in waves. When I started Peony Lane, I threw myself to the wolves and figure out how to make good wine. While waiting for it to age, I had 2 years to figure out how to sell it. In all that time, I was passively learning how to manage a vineyard, but that was ultimately my dad's responsibility. I would buy grapes from him each year. Last year I took over the vineyard. I made a few changes, but mostly ran with his tactics last year. This year its feeling much more my own. Its going to take years to get it where I want though. I can only make small changes year to year without shocking the system. I think that's what I love most about it. I love making small improvements over a long time horizon with the ability to make mistakes and learn along the way. I didn't realize it when I got into wine and Bitcoin at the same time, but long term growth systems with high short term volatility are so exciting to me. We're gonna win.

Buying trinkets and clothes with Bitcoin feels amazing. I want to be able to buy everything with bitcoin. However, if our goal is to live on bitcoin one day, none of that matters in comparison to being able to buy food with it. I measure progress in the Bitcoin Circular Economy by how many farmers and ranchers get orange pilled.

July at 6,000 feet and my vineyard is exploding. New growth is coming in faster than we can manage it. We rushed to finish knocking back sucker vines and came up for air only to realize how far behind we were on canopy management. I did this to myself. After losing the entire vineyard to a freeze in 2020, I trained extra shoots on every vine to hedge against it happening again. Then 2025 took out a third of the vineyard and I doubled down on the same logic. Now the areas that survived 2025 are overbearing. The canopy needs airflow and sun exposure, but draping shoots over the trellis can only do so much when the growth is too thick. Going forward I'll prune harder with a modified goal. Instead of training for redundancy, I'll train each vine to be stronger. This is only my second season running the vineyard full-time after my dad, so I've got years of his management techniques to slowly work against.
