Trump said on Sunday that he was “rejecting” a proposal from Iran to end the war and fully open the Strait of Hormuz within seven days, comments that came after The Wall Street Journal reported that he’s expecting to resume bombing Iran after the midterm elections.

Honestly, the American people — especially the conservative side of the political aisle — have the worst case of Stockholm syndrome in human history.

Most indicators suggest that the Republicans in the House and Senate are going to face a brutal backlash from the American people in November. Polling with generic ballots suggest a big win for the Democrats and likely the loss of Republican control of both houses of Congress. There is little reason to cheer a Democratic party victory, however Republicans in charge have for the most part earned what is coming to them.

Americans must spread freedom because liberty is a universal human right, not a geographic privilege. When people are free to innovate, trade, and govern themselves, global poverty plummets and security rises. History shows that free societies rarely go to war with one another. By championing open markets, free speech, and individual rights, Americans create a safer, more prosperous world. Guarding freedom globally is the best way to secure it at home.

Government is not your friend. It cares about its own preservation, not yours. That’s why citizens who resist the government’s authority are tried for treason, while governments that resist the people’s authority award themselves immunity.
