Joy in Others' Good Fortune (Buddhist) Mudita is sympathetic joy—rejoicing in the good fortune of others. It's the opposite of envy. When we practice gratitude, we're already opening the door to mudita: we're happy with what we have, so we can be happy when others have good things too. Their success doesn't threaten ours. We celebrate with them. "May the good fortune of others never diminish my own happiness." — Brahma Viharas

I had a dream last night that I was driving, pressing the brakes all the way to the floor, and the car wouldn’t slow down. Who knows what this meant from my subconscious, but it certainly relates to the momentum in my own life. For years, a lot of that momentum has gone into my family, my day job, Bitcoin, Nostr, and Zap Cooking. It has been challenging and rewarding at the same time. We’re so close to releasing Android on Google Play, and iOS is actively being built. But Zap Cooking isn’t in a place where I can commit to it full time, and maybe Zap Cooking isn’t “the thing.” Maybe it’s part of the transition, not the destination. I’ve spent decades in manufacturing operations, solving problems, building systems, and aligning people through action and conversation. Zap Cooking has taught me how to build products, work with new technology, and bring people together around an idea. Those feel like pieces of something, but I can’t quite see what they are becoming yet. Momentum isn’t always direction. Sometimes the hardest part is knowing when to keep building, when to slow down, and when to take the next leap. I can feel change on the horizon. I just can’t name it yet 🤔 🧘‍♂️ 🙏

Money is not value. HODL culture had its place. It taught people that saving matters. In a world built on consumption, that was an important lesson. But somewhere along the way, we started confusing money with value. Health is value. Friends are value. Family is value. Time is value. The positive influence we have on each other is value. None of that can be measured in satoshis. We spend a lot of time talking about privacy, and we should. It matters. But privacy alone doesn’t build a better world. Trust does. Technology can protect our privacy. Only people can build trust. The hard lessons usually end up being the most valuable ones. They shape us more than our successes ever could. Practice gratitude instead of envy. Gratitude is a superpower. It changes how you see the world. We’re living through extraordinary times. I think what we need most isn’t more money. It’s more humility. More trust. More gratitude. That is real value.

Was at my mom’s house today scrolling old pictures and we found the pics from when she rescued an injured humming bird and nursed it back to health. She mashed up bugs into sugar water and fed it with a small syringe. Had it for about 3 weeks until it could fly again. image

Scoping hardware options for all the agents. What are some good options out there?

I think it needs to go further. Open source the software. Open source the hardware. Then compete on execution. Trust has been broken too many times to rely solely on audits. A third party auditor is still paid by the company being audited, which creates an incentive structure that can make independence harder to achieve. The strongest trust layer is one where anyone can inspect, verify, and reproduce the work for themselves. View quoted note →
