Bitcoin is similar to natural phenomena and not a common asset. Power laws are mathematical expressions of the form y=A x^n and are ubiquitous in nature but also in social phenomena and many parameters related to how a city or a nation grows. They are so common because it can be shown mathematically and physically that they emerge any time you have some kind of process where the output becomes the new input in an iterative process. This is exactly what happens with Bitcoin where for example the hash rate now affects the hash rate later in an infinite loop.
