PAR EXPLAINED 🌀 The Philippine Area of Responsibility, or PAR, is a weather-monitoring domain used by PAGASA to track, analyze, and forecast tropical cyclones that may affect the country. PAGASA’s responsibility to monitor and report weather conditions within the PAR is recognized under Presidential Decree No. 78, issued in 1972, which established PAGASA, and Presidential Decree No. 1149, issued in 1977, which reorganized the agency and reaffirmed its weather-monitoring functions within the Philippine Area of Responsibility. The PAR is bounded by imaginary lines connecting these coordinates: 5°N 115°E, 15°N 115°E, 21°N 120°E, 25°N 120°E, 25°N 135°E, and 5°N 135°E. Because of these boundaries, most of Taiwan falls within the area monitored by PAGASA.
