Reposted. Original by Bayani #Austriches Hey all. You may or not be aware of the recent proposal to further regulate “digital asset platforms” such as crypto exchanges, who currently require an AFSL because they deal with financial products and other high risk activities. A fact sheet can be found here: https://treasury.gov.au/sites/default/files/2023-10/c2023-427004-fs.pdf However, you may not realise that this proposal will create a new financial product, one that requires any entity providing an “asset holding” service, regardless of the asset being a financial product or not. This expansion of regulatory control will thereby include bitcoin-only exchanges, requiring them to undertake the costs and the regulatory burden of an AFSL, despite not participating in the same high-risk activities crypto exchanges typically do. It is strongly recommended to provide comment on this; high-risk activities deserve the regulations. Bitcoin-only exchanges do not. This will result in raising the barrier to entry for new participants, and push consumers into leaving their bitcoin in the hands of people who have a greater exposure to high risk activity. I’ll be sharing a version of my response if you care to use any/all of it. Please share this with others who may be interested; Twitter, Facebook, Nostr, etc.
@Will @Derek Ross Hey Will/Derek, not sure if this is a Damus or a Nostr bug however zaps are the stickiest thing about Nostr so it’s really important people know when they are zapped, yet in my UI they often don’t show up at all or in wacky order or not until days later. So I’m learning about my Nostr zaps from my lightning wallet, not from my Nostr/Damus UX. It doesn’t have the same warm and fuzzy excitement of opening Damus and immediately realising someone sent you money because they found value in your posts.
Rifting on from a conversation last night about “trusting the professionals” and “trusting the science” … and paraphrasing John Galt: “When you outsource your responsibility to think, you outsource your right to life” There is only one person on this planet that can ever truly have and should, by the very nature of being human, ever have your best interests at heart and that person is YOU. If you refuse to trust yourself and instead outsource that responsibility to anyone else than you get exactly what is in their best interest to give you, be it good, bad or ugly. You gave up your right to it being anything that is in your best interest.
Do you see any of this reflected in the world you are currently living in? “When you see that in order to produce, you need to obtain permission from men who produce nothing - When you see that money is flowing to those who deal, not in goods, but in favors - When you see that men get richer by graft and by pull than by work, and your laws don’t protect you against them, but protect them against you - When you see corruption being rewarded and honesty becoming a self-sacrifice - You may know that your society is doomed.” Ayn Rand, Atlas Shrugged
Australia is so messed up! We recently had a referendum to change our constitution. Our Prime Minister TLDR’d the voters on the 120pg “Statement from the Heart” document that was the basis for calling the referendum. He did read the 1 page summary. The statement consultation process concerning the ongoing welfare of our 150 First Nation “mobs” (distinct tribes) was attended by approx 250 people, only 100 of the representatives were First Nations, some mobs walked out citing it was a one way dialogue, not a consultation. That means we’ll over half the delegation we’re white. There is no information available on how many mobs were actually represented at the consultation but clearly no more than 2/3rds (100 First Nation representatives. Approx 150 mobs, some mobs had multiple representatives). We do know that some mobs walked out, in protest. Only the ACT (smallest Australian territory by size and population) voted yes, all other states overwhelmingly voted no. Nationally more than 60% of voters voted no. In Queensland some electorates had over an 80% no vote. Many First Nations people advocated for the ‘no’ vote. Yet, here come the best part… the Queensland premier has just granted ALL Queensland public service employees 5 days of paid leave (paid by producers) to mourn the decision!!! So much for democracy… “Socialism is Communism by stealth”
Respect those who earn it. Encourage the weak to find their strengths. Be humble, over a long enough timeline you will discover you were wrong about more things than you were right about. Develop too much self love to allow moochers to mooch off you and do your utmost to discourage looters from looting from you. Learn, Built, Produce, Teach
There is something incredibly satisfying about cooking and eating the beef that you’ve seen grazing on healthy grass pastures only a week ago and then been a part of the whole process, including skinning, gutting, butchering and mincing. I’m so excited to eat this later this evening. #paddocktoplate #PoW #Yum #Austriches Excited for the upcoming Bush Bush Bash, date TBA, where thanks to @Bluey we’ll get the opportunity to do this again. image
