Remember the scene from 12 Angry Men when after the first round of voting the character of Henry Fonda says if after the second round nobody changes his vote he will do so and submit to the majority. But after round two the character of Joseph Sweeney changes his vote, not because he had changed his mind but out of respect of HF's character and not to leave alone in his battle. Public speakers have this technique of saying something kind of controversial and quickly follow it up with saying "right?". Unless someone instantly runs to the podium and smash the speaker in the face "No, not right! Wrong! Very wrong!" which is rarely the case, the audience have now the impression that the statement has been validated. This is a play on the human psyche instead of well founded arguments and therefore1 I hate it! #randomthoughts
