Hot take: Bitcoin Twitter is NOT the gateway to Nostr adoption. It's #mastodon. There are ~1million DAU's who we *could* be talking to, if only bridges like #mostr and #momostr weren't (intentionally?) broken. That's stage 1: talking across protocols. Something that, when you think about it, is incredibly magical. X users cannot and WILL NOT ever be able to talk to Facebook users. But interoperability (as Cory Doctorow points out) is key for social networks winning. And we can do this TODAY. Stage 2 is the inevitable realization by the #fediverse  that we have built-in, frictionless, permissionless, micropayment monetization "out of the box." Then they all come here. Tl;dr : it's going to be far easier to Orange Pill the Fediverse than it will be to Purple Pill Bitcoin Twitter.

Watching Ken Burn's excellent The American Revolution on PBS... I have thoughts, and don't worry, this relates back to #bitcoin and #nostr... A tension in the ideological roots of the revolution was "Liberty for whom?" The founding documents used words like "every man", etc... This made the enslaved and free blacks of the colonies think, "hey maybe they're talking about me!" But it wasn't really about them... at least, that's definitely not the outcome the founders wanted. Seeing bitcoin's rightward shift over this decade, I have similar thoughts... Code doesn't care whether you're a queer furry or a white nationalist. But I'm guessing that many people in the Bitcoin (and by extension Nostr) space of 2025 think "this isn't for you" about at least one category of people... #history #documentary #pbs
