GM... I find the intense reactions to the Flock stuff... a bit odd, but telling.
First, I feel entitled to a bit of urbanist "told ya so" -- congrats for adopting a lifestyle where you have to drive everywhere, a mode of transportation that requires you to *literally strap a number* on your mode of conveyance. Neither walking, bike, nor even taking transit requires that a bright, machine-legible number registered to my home address be physically bolted onto my mode of transport.
Second, I really don't see how people seem to have the expectation that they aren't going to be monitored in public spaces...? Particularly a public space like the street, that is explicitly owned by the State, and reserves for itself a (given the context) legitimate authority to manage that space.
And finally, it's hard not to note the irony that most of what Flock cameras have actually been used for by the government recently is tracking down illegal immigrants by #ice, something most people on Nostr seem to support...
