A diversified 📈 stock market portfolio is NOT true diversification.
Many Christian financial advisors use Ecclesiastes 11:2 to justify the diversified stock market portfolio. However, this scripture does not have the modern-day stock market in mind.
The biblical idea of investing involves close proximity to the businesses you invest in and relational investment as well as financial investment. Scripture encourages investing locally, not just in the very few, preferentially treated businesses in the stock market.
In fact, the stock market includes only about .001% of all the businesses in America. Yet, that is where the vast majority of the wealth of Americans is directed, starving local, small businesses from resources that could make a tangible difference in local communities.
This is not right. As Christians who are called to impact our communities we should be invested relationally and financially LOCALLY. Instead, we've allowed our resources to be syphoned to corrupt mega-corporations who are bent on sabotaging God's redemptive purposes.
