GM Nostr 🌅 I have a feeling Otis was thinking “Dad, I didn’t sign up for sitting, cold and wet, on a rock in a glacial outflow river!” 🤣 (Still looked handsome though!) #alterntivelifestyle #dogontheroad #offroadlife image
GE Nostr 👋 Anyone know what’s going on in Georgia? Today I asked in two more places that are listed in @BTC Map as taking payment with Lightning and both of them said they don’t - Smart Market and Wissol Fuel station. I’d understand an error here or there, but I’m currently 0-4 and it feels like maybe there’s been a shift? I’m going to keep hunting, but in the meantime, anyone any insight? (Yes, I updated the listings on BTC Map) #stillnotquiteshoppingwithsats
Still on the hunt for places that take payments in SATs in Tbilisi. #shoppingwithsats

Today we head from Gori (Stalin’s Birthplace, who knew 🤷‍♂️) to Tbilisi… just look at all those places listed on @BTC Map to spend SATs 🙌 What first? A juice? Some fuel for Bebe? Lunch? 🤔 image
GM Nostr 🌅 Today is a big day… it’s new country day! We’ll be leaving Turkey, after nearly 3 months here, and crossing in to Georgia. This will be country number 22 for Isla, Otis and Bebe (the truck) and country 103 for me. We don’t know how many countries Jess has visited because she hasn’t counted them up yet 🤣 Looking at @BTC Map it seems we might have some chance to use some SATs in Georgia, including at fuel stations, or maybe just for me to get a haircut as we’d need a LOT of SATs to fill the truck tank 🤣 if it works though, it’ll be a nice test of borderless currency, and if everywhere would take SATs it would make travel so much easier. One day 🤞 #borderlesscurrency #overlandlife #dencentralisedliving image
GM Nostr 🌅 When looking for picture locations, the forecourt of a fuel station isn’t the first port of call… but hey, you go with what works…right?! 📍Mount Ararat, Turkey #turkiye #overlanders #overlandfamily image
GM Nostr 🌅 Here’s a question I’ve been pondering a while… are the Turkish people the most welcoming to travellers? Here’s my reasoning… I (Dave) have visited over 100 countries (currently on 102 if you’re curious). 22 of them have been in our truck. We’ve been here in Turkey for 2.5months so far and every single interaction has been positive. Almost without fail the first question is “do you need me to help you with anything?” Not in a “how can I get you out of here quickly” way but a genuine desire to help or share. People try to flag us down from the roadside and offer us Chai, random people in the street come and give Isla balloons or sweets and they all have a smile. We stopped at a water point to top up our tanks and after about 10mins a guy from the nearby house wandered over with fresh, warm pastries to give to Jess and Isla. Five minutes later we were in his house somehow gate crashing a family party, everyone budged up to make space, table settings were laid and we were having breakfast. Then as we left we were handed a bag of tomatoes and lemons from their garden. Even this guy in the picture. We met him for all of about 5minutes, but he didn’t leave without ensuring we took a gift that he’d just dug out of his car…after we’d told him we didn’t need any help with anything. We’re not wealthy, (the Sats aren’t stacking as high as we’d like!), but we turn up in our big blue truck and to the outside it seems like we have lots of money. In many ways compared to many of the local people we meet, we do. And yet they’re the ones thrusting gifts upon us. Sharing a little of what they have. No judgement, no desire for anything in return - in fact, they’re almost offended if you don’t take their hospitality, or try to offer them something in return. It’s just genuine human-to-human kindness. 🫶 One world. One people. One love. #travelthoughts #overlandexperience #turkiye image
Meet the family… we’ll start with the furry, noisy one! This is Otis, our 5yr old Hungarian Vizsla. Some of you will have seen the story of his close shave with the rainbow bridge a few weeks ago, but he’s back to his old self again now, exploring, sniffing, being noisy… and sometimes making a lot of noise! #travelfamily image
GM Nostr 🌅 One of the joys of overlanding is meeting other travelling folk from other parts of the world - the Mercedes closest to the camera is a German couple while the Unimog furthest from the camera is from China. They’ve travelled 40,000km and are on their way back to China now, while we’ve done 21,000km on this trip so far and the Germans are a little earlier in their trip and are around 10,000km so far. Despite the three different origins, we all share a love of travel and adventure that transcends language barriers - proof that humans, no matter their colour, creed or place of birth, are all one and can find common ground. #expeditiontruck #overlanding #lifeoffroad #onehumanity image
GM Nostr! Well we have had quite the little while, so let’s start with a new family pic and then we can catch you up from there. Here’s us, with our home on wheels, parked on a beach in Southern Turkey. The only one missing is Otis, our Hungarian Vizsla, (he’s in the cab) but more on him shortly. #decentralisedloving #offgridlife #pverlandfamily image
GM Nostr 🌅 In answer to the question of “where are we going next?” Here’s the answer! #alifewelltravelled #offgridliving #decentralisedlife #expeditiontruck #overlandfamily
The most painful part of living in an expedition truck… putting fuel in! But… since we’ve just got in to Turkey, it’s cheaper than Greece and MUCH cheaper than England! 🙌 #zapsforfuel #notallpositives #alternativelifestyle #lifeontheroad #overlandfamily
I took a boat trip out on to Lake Kerkini this moring to see and photograph the Dalmatian Pelicans. They’re such interesting birds with that tuft of hair, ridiculous, big bills and amazing eyes. And they look so menacing when they stare straight at you! They’re also the largest pelican species and quite probably the largest freshwater bird in the world, weighing in around 9.5kg with a wingspan to rival some of the albatrosses. They’re listed as Vulnerable on the IUCN list and their population is still decreasing due to exploitation at all life stages. It’s estimated there are 3000-5000 breeding pairs left. In Mongolian markets for example, the going rate for a Dalmatian Pelican bill is 10 horses and 30 sheep. While Lake Kerkini is not their largest population (that’s Lake Prespa on the border of Greece and Albania) there is still a good population here, that given the efforts of locals who run boat trips to see them and conservation efforts to provide breeding and nesting platforms on the lake, is holding steady. #environmentalawareness #seetheworldwithdifferenteyes #wildlife #photography #decentralisedliving image
This is our last 12months of travelling overland as a family in our truck. There has been adventures and experiences that will last for a lifetime… the real question is, what do the next 12 months hold for us and where are we going? #worldadvenutre #overlandfamily #decentralised
It’s not all insta-perfect park-ups and blissful solitude. Sometimes you’ve got to take the rough with the smooth. #overlandrealities #pictureperfectparkup
