Had a Gresham's law moment at the grocery store yesterday. I debated buying brown sugar for longer than necessary because it “felt” expensive. I had to say the words out loud, “It’s (dollars) going to zero, spend the money Taylor.” It seems there’s a part of my brain that still thinks I can “save” and “cut spending” our way out of fiat poverty.

✨People✨, am I right?

My local farmers market is outdoors in a town that’s pretty much always windy. And every market there’s ladies trying to make their tents and tables
✨✨cute and dainty✨✨
only to have their stuff blowing away.
I get that wire jewelry and lace are hard to sell with brutalist decor, but y’all might want to consider less floof and more concrete blocks 😅
A follow-up to yesterday’s story.
The RCMP have no evidence, have filed no charges, the company is not Canadian, and they seized the customer’s funds, not just the company’s.
I’m getting flashbacks to the CRA seizing my money. “You MIGHT owe us, so we’re taking everything.” Straight-up theft.
This is a reminder to not trust your money to others. No banks, no exchanges, no “wealth management”, no retirement plans, no funds… The government is going to steal it and tell you it’s your fault.

In a choice between security and convenience, convenience will win every time.
- some rando on the internet
When trying to pitch some users on not leaving their passwords on a sticky note on their monitors, I was going to use the example of "you wouldn't tape your house keys to your front door". But before the words could leave my mouth I remembered a past house-call customer who did exactly that.
The moral of the story is when planning for security, you either need to make the cost of shortcutting enormous and immediate (think firing w/perp-walk out the door) or more convenient than shortcutting. The first is obviously unpopular with most, and the second is a huge PITA for devs who will also choose convenience by offloading to MFA-in-a-box and shouting "let them eat TOTP apps and choose traffic lights!".
Damn, this started as a funny story about security and ended in mild depression... 😭
I’m sure many books have been written on the subject, but it’s been my pondering this evening anyways.
Matthew 25:31-46 is a section some Bibles title as “The Final Judgment” where Jesus describes returning as King and separating those who did Good from those who didn’t. One of the lessons commonly taught out of this section is that Jesus is instructing us to provide for “strangers” and “the least of these” as if we are doing it for Jesus himself.
A hotly debated detail is who, exactly, Jesus was talking about when he said “strangers” and “the least of these”. I’ve seen all sort of interpretations ranging from “literally everyone” to “specifically the Samaritans”. Personally I’ve tried to focus on “those who can’t help / take care of themselves”.
My evening pondering has been this question: What about those who hate us and want us to die? Those who, when given the opportunity, are killing our wives, husbands, and children? Are we to risk the lives of those under our (Biblically mandated!) care to care for them? Are those people “strangers” and “the least of these”, or something else?

Hey @Quentin, how many sats to add an option to have all media from selected users be automatically marked as “checked” in v0.7? (It’s me on my own server.) Or is that already a feature in 0.6 and I’m just blind?

It’s been almost 7 years, how has she not figured this out yet?

At this point most of us have heard of vibecoding, but what about bribecoding? Like, if I wanted to see custom blossom server support in @Damus by the end of September, could I zap that into existence? What might that cost?
