The hardest lesson life ever taught me was that having a good heart doesn't guarantee you'll be treated with one.
For a long time, I believed kindness had a way of coming back. I thought if I was patient, understanding, and always chose compassion, people would meet me with the same love I gave them.
They didn't.
Some people will gladly accept your loyalty while giving very little in return. They'll appreciate everything you do without ever asking how much it's costing you. They'll promise the world while their actions quietly tell a different story.
That realization didn't make me stop being kind.
It just taught me to stop confusing potential with character.
Now I listen less to what people say and pay closer attention to how they make me feel.
Because words can comfort you for a moment.
Actions tell you where you truly stand.
