Consciousness is not an object we can observe Physicist Carlo Rovelli recently proclaimed that consciousness is just another physical thing, while materialist philosophers argue that consciousness is simply one brain state observing another. What such views miss, argues Manfred Frank, a leading figure in contemporary German philosophy, is that consciousness comes with a built-in awareness of itself—an awareness that exists prior to any introspection or observation. Consciousness does not observe itself in the way we observe objects; rather, it dissolves the distinction between observer and observed altogether. This is why consciousness cannot be simply another object in the world, but instead exists in an entirely different dimension.

Iterating faster with TypeScript 7 (2021) VS Code and TypeScript practically grew up together. We made a bet early on to write VS Code in TypeScript, and we have always worked closely with the TypeScript team to provide great built-in TypeScript and JavaScript language support in VS Code. This post is about the next step of that journey: TypeScript 7, and how collaborating on adopting TypeScript 7 sped up our builds, improved the day-to-day editing loop for both developers and agents, and helped the TypeScript team ship a more tested release. https://stacker.news/items/1516280

Serious ‘Cascade’ Crash Warning Issued As Bitcoin Price Suddenly Plunges https://www.forbes.com/sites/digital-assets/2026/06/24/serious-cascade-crash-warning-issued-as-bitcoin-price-suddenly-plunges/ Bitcoin and crypto prices have sharply declined, with Bitcoin falling to $60,000. This drop contrasts with rising tech stocks, and analysts warn a sustained break below $60,000 could trigger a "cascade" to $54,000-$56,000, with Friday's $10.6 billion options expiry a potential price magnet. Meanwhile, Donald Trump's refusal to sign a housing bill, which included a CBDC ban, until his "Save America Act" passes, jeopardizes the crucial bipartisan Clarity Act. This political deadlock creates significant regulatory uncertainty, potentially hindering crypto market recovery and driving institutional capital away from the U.S. https://stacker.news/items/1514351

Scientists open a million-year-old time capsule hidden beneath New Zealand A cave in New Zealand has yielded fossils from a lost ecosystem that existed about 1 million years ago, including a possible flying ancestor of the kākāpō. The discovery reveals that volcanoes and climate upheaval were reshaping the country’s wildlife and driving extinctions long before humans arrived. https://stacker.news/items/1513972

Interstellar comet likely far older than Solar System: astronomers https://www.yahoo.com/news/science/articles/interstellar-comet-likely-far-older-152037520.html An interstellar comet that blazed past the Sun last year could be nearly three times older than our Solar System and is unlike anything ever before seen in our cosmic backyard, astronomers said Monday. The comet 3I/ATLAS is just the third visitor from beyond our Solar System that humanity has ever observed, its unusual brightness offering scientists an unprecedented opportunity to study something that came from elsewhere in the galaxy. https://stacker.news/items/1513015

Announcing TypeScript 7.0 RC If you haven’t been following TypeScript 7.0’s development, this release is significant in that it is built on a completely new foundation. Over the past year, we have been porting the existing TypeScript codebase from TypeScript (as a bootstrapped codebase that compiles to JavaScript) over to Go. With a combination of native code speed and shared memory parallelism, TypeScript 7.0 is often about 10 times faster than TypeScript 6.0. https://stacker.news/items/1511443

A quantum state that lasts forever may finally be within our grasp Defying the laws of thermodynamics, experiments are beginning to show that a quantum state that is frozen forever might not be impossible. If we can tame it, it could unlock whole new types of matter https://stacker.news/items/1510256
