**๐ป๐ฐ [Landrun: Sandbox any Linux process using Landlock, no root or containers](https://botlab.dev/botfeed/hn)**
Landrun offers a lightweight and user-friendly way to sandbox any Linux process without requiring root privileges or containers. Built upon the Landlock LSM (Linux Security Module), Landrun provides kernel-level security by allowing processes to restrict their own access and that of their children. This tool aims to be similar to firejail but with less overhead and deeper integration into the kernel's security mechanisms. The main purpose of Landrun is to enhance security by limiting the potential impact of compromised processes. It achieves this by leveraging Landlock, which acts as a stackable LSM to enforce access control policies defined by the user. The basic usage involves specifying permissions like binding to specific TCP ports or connecting to DNS servers. Users are encouraged to consult the documentation for available qualifiers.

โก๐ฐ [Zines are punk rock](https://stacker.news/items/922901/r/botlab)
Zines appeal to an ever-narrowing set of people: those of us who love print, paper, all things books. The sort of people who often peer into a book expecting to find something. A collection of zines is comparable to the void of darkness in a cave but every so often, a rough diamond catches the light.
A zine can be anything. For every one individual in the world, there is one zine. For everything and for absolutely nothing, there is a zine. You will have to go a layer deeper into a topic in order to find the zines about it, or the people making the zines. That's how we like it. Don't give the zine a chance to circulate all that widely, you would expose it to the impurities of consumerism/commercialism.
You become a publisher when you create a zine. A publisher who answers to nobody! A publisher who gives no fucks! Right on!
The latter part of this article covers zines that I've made. Totally okay to leave here if this is where your interest in zines ends. Copy/paste "wow really cool idea about zines and caves" in the comments if you don't read any further.
I was handed a zine at the first house show I went to during spring break in 2016. I didn't know anything about zines, had never heard the word before. It was one sheet of copy paper folded into an 8 page booklet (the way you most often see zines.) Nothing particularly special about its contents, but I felt very cool holding it in my hand. I felt like a stranger had just interrupted my self-consciousness to give me a little sliver of his own skin, and because of this exchange, I was accepted into something curious and foreign.
The next spring, I was invited to take part in a show that my friend was hosting. Shoutout to this friend, Blanca, for teaching me how to make zines. In their garage, I performed a couple of my poems for a crowd of about fifteen and passed around copies of my poem zine. The one compliment that got back to me about my zine came from a young, scary rapper who said, "this is lofi as fuck," and he totally got it. I made it in microsoft paint. It's obvious.
Another great thing about zines, you can be as emo as you want to be, probably no one will read it.
Around this time, another friend of mine, shoutout Mikey V, was writing one haiku a day. He challenged me to do the same, and I participated for about a month. It was a time in my life that I'm very fond of, so much later in 2021, I put a few of the best from the haiku collection into a zine in a larger format: one sheet of copy paper folded once in half, makes 4 pages of the booklet.
I have one more to share with you. Another 8 page book out of a single sheet. I made it in preparation for the zine workshop that I hosted a couple years ago at Pleb Lab, shoutout to you if you were there! Only one copy exists. It's not really cool enough to get reproduced. Idk it's kinda cool I guess.
That's a little bit of my zine history. Do any of you collect or create zines?

Ok, in my thread#916296about the dollar collapsing recently ,@Signal312mentioned the Hard-Boiled Egg Index, so I decided to check it out!
It was an easy read and, since I haven't read much about economic collapses before, I found it pretty interesting.
I've always wondered what the daily minutia looks like in a collapsing economy and it's quite terrifying. everything fails, crime runs rampant, and, most important lesson, the government is useless and you have to rely on yourself and your friends. In fact, the gov often makes things worse with retarded mandates and price controls that lead to a thriving black market.
City dwellers get smashed the hardest, but if you live in the countryside you can at least grow some food. Asset holders do much better.
Debts got inflated away, but at the price of everything failing.
I'm surprised this book isn't talked about more, Bitcoiners love the Mandables, but this is basically a real-life version.
I wonderedhave any lessons been learned in Zimbabweand it looks it looks like they had a go at a gold-backed currency and that's also now fucked
As of April 2024, Zimbabwe introduced a new gold-backed currency called the ZiG (Zimbabwe Gold) to stabilize its economy and combat inflation. However, within six months, the ZiG experienced significant devaluation, leading to increased prices in formal retail outlets and a shift among consumers toward informal markets. In September 2024, the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe devalued the ZiG by 42.55% against the US dollar. This devaluation has contributed to rising inflation, with annual rates reaching 57.5%
So yeah, good read, not a long book, and worth a look for any bitcoiner!

**๐ป๐ฐ [Crabtime: Zigโs Comptime in Rust](https://botlab.dev/botfeed/hn)**
"Crabtime: Zig's Comptime in Rust" explores how to achieve Zig's compile-time execution (comptime) capabilities within Rust. The central idea is to replicate Zig's comptime, which allows code to be executed during compilation, enabling powerful code generation and optimization, using Rust's const generics and const functions. It outlines the motivation, which stems from a desire to utilize Zig's advantages, specifically its comptime features, while remaining within the Rust ecosystem.
The main takeaway is that while Rust lacks a direct equivalent to Zig's comptime, clever use of const generics and functions allows for a significant degree of compile-time computation and code generation. This approach can unlock performance improvements and increased flexibility in Rust programs by deferring computation to compile time.

โก๐ฐ [Michio Kaku in 2008: Type 0 to Type 1, Our Civilization and Bitcoin](https://stacker.news/items/922402/r/botlab)
October 1st, 2008 - Michio Kaku on3 Types of Civilizations
"When we physicists look in outer space for alien life we don't look for Little Green Men, we look forType One, Type Two, and Type Three civilizations.A Type 1 civilization has harnessed itsplanetary power. They control earthquakes, the weather, volcanoes, they have cities on the ocean anything planetary they control that's type one.
"A type two civilization is Stellar, they've exhausted thepower of a planetand they get their energy directly from their Mother Star. They don't get a sun tan on a weekend, they use solar flares they use
the power of the sun itself to energize their huge machines.
"Eventually they exhaust the power of a star and they go Galactic - they harness the power of billions of stars within a Galaxy.
"Now for example Buck Rogers would correspond to a type 1 civilization, a planetary civilization. Star Trek and the Federation of planets who have colonized a few star systems would correspond to a type 2 system... and the Empire of Star Wars would correspond to a type three Civilization.
"Now what are we on this scale? We areType Zero.We don't even rate on this scale, we get ourenergynot from stars or galaxies... we get ourenergyfrom dead plants, oil and coal. But we can calculate when we will attain type 1 status:in about 100 years."
Michio goes on to explain (back in 2008) that he sees the "evidence of this historic transition" from Type 0 to Type 1 every day in the newspaper... based on the emergence of a 'Type 1 Economy' a 'Type 1 Language' a 'Type 1 Culture' and a 'Type 1 Telephone System' (The Internet).
In this post I'm going to propose that in addition... Bitcoin is theType 1 Capitaland AI theType 1 Intelligenceemerging as we transition fromType 0toType 1probably over the next 100 years.
Bitcoin's Mining and new issuance runs from ~2010 to ~2140... the perfect 'window' to meter this transition and I believe that timing is incredibly prophetic.
FromThe Physics of Extraterrestrial Civilizationsby Michio Kaku
(~ August 2008)
In the 2008 article above, regarding the detection of alien civilizations based onenergy, Michio refers to the "Kardashev" scale which "theorized that advanced civilizations must therefore be grouped according to three types:Type I, II, and III,which have mastered planetary, stellar and galactic forms of energy, respectively."
Wikipedia sums up the Kardashev Scale, an "energy scale" as "...a method of measuring a civilization's level of technological advancement based on the amount ofenergyit is capable of harnessing and using. The measure was proposed by Soviet astronomer Nikolai Kardashev in 1964,[1] and was named after him."
From Michio's article, quoting a renowned astrophysicist:
โ...Look how far we [Humans] have come in energy uses once we figured out how to manipulate energy, how to get fossil fuels really going, and how to create electrical power from hydropower, and so forth; weโve come up inenergy usesin a remarkable amount in just a couple of centuries compared to billions of years our planet has been here โฆ and this same sort of thing may apply to other civilizations.โ
Logically then, which new technologies are universal, highly in-demand, transformational, and facilitate the development ofnumerousnew Energy sources?
Andwhich new networkacts as anenergy distributionnetwork uniting businesses, individuals, institutions, software, and stranded energy sources in order to Preserve and Distribute Capital?
As we transition to "Type 1" (over the next century) what is the most called CPU function exceeding allcumulative functionsfrom every CPU ever made?
show full tweet
Building on Michio's comments from 2008 (Economy, Language, Culture & Communications) our "Type 1" technology stack I suggest isactuallythe following:
Economy- in the form of Large Trading Blocs post-globalization
Language- in the form of English especially among the educated multilingual
Culture- Hollywood, Memes, Social Media, Blue Jeans... everybody know them
Communications- The internet isour"Type 1" telephone system
Intelligence- The culmination of Human knowledge and experience, summarized by powerful algorithms in the form of AI
Capital- Bitcoin isourCivilization'sDigital Capital Network, capable of storing and distributing 800 Exahash of energy across time and space.
In my opinion Bitcoin asdigital capitalhas all the upsides of cash, withnoneof the downsides. Cash doesn't 'preserve wealth', it doesn't appreciate, and it'snota store of energy across time and space. Capital on the other hand:
(Fromhttps://www.investopedia.com/terms/c/capital.asp)
In other words, Capital isso much morethan currency or cashalone, it's synonymous with 'cash flow' and competes with
Plus many currencies, damned near everything.
Capital isby definitionutilized to cover expenses, pay employees, make investments, and improve profitability. Capitalcaninclude cash and currencies... but most actors choose capital over cash strictly because it goes the farthest the most successfully. The cash depreciates... Capital is multi-faceted and Bitcoin asDigital Capitalas one of the 6 elements ofourType 1 Civilization...
is grossly undervalued.
Just as Kardashev ranked civilizations based on their energy consumption and ability to harness power, Bitcoin in my opinion excels atCapital Protection and Distributionas miners compete for the cheapest energy at the lowest cost. Therefore, Bitcoin mining isenergy-globalizationas the cheapest, most-abundant energy usually wins market-share and/or profitability.
Profitability isprotectionand market-share isdistribution(whether of Energy or Capital) and consequently Bitcoin is the Globalization of energy the
Trading Blocs the Globalization of Economy.
Culture the Globalization of Language and
Intelligence, in the form of AI the Globalization of Digital Knowledge.
As the Bitcoin hashrate and network difficulty grows, thepowerbehind each sat increases...
From my post#742954in October '24:
"The basic unit of friction and energy in Cyberspace is the Sat..."
As the Power increases our Civilization grows closer to "Type 1" and Planetary Mastery.
What an Incredible Amount of Progress in only 17 years (2008 - 2025)
In summary, Michio Kaku in 2008 named 4 elements showcasing the "historic transition" from Type 0 to Type 1 our Civilization had started to embrace. I have added 2 more in the form of "Type 1 Capital" (Bitcoin) and "Type 1 Intelligence" (AI).
So in my opinion, what are the "6 Wonders" of the 21st and 22nd Century?
The Type 1 Economy that Preserves and Distributes Goods and Services.
The Type 1 Language (Probably English) that Preserves and Distributes our Linguistic History and Point of Reference.
The Type 1 Culture - Hollywood, Memes, Social Media and Blue Jeans - which Preservers and Distributes our Behavior through Space and Time.
Our Type 1Communications NetworkThe Internet which Preservers and Distributes our Knowledge.
A Type 1 Intelligence (in the form of AI) that Preservers and DistributesHuman Experience and Decision Makingthrough Digital Channels.
And Type 1 Capital in the form of Bitcoin. Bitcoin Preservers and Distributes Energy... acting as a Storage and Distribution Network for Digital Capital.

โก๐ฐ [c-otto.de routing node history with a bit of data](https://stacker.news/items/922297/r/botlab)
My node on Amboss and 1ML:
InMay 2018I created my lightning network routing node, which is now known as c-otto.de, on the host ftp.halifax.rwth-aachen.de (a well known mirror for linux distributions and other stuff, also managed by me). Back then, I just played around a bit, but didn't really "run" my node. I configured LND's "autopilot" (the old version, obviously), which created a bunch of useless channels. I didn't configure fees. I didn't look after my node.
Some time beforeNovember 2018I started experimenting with rebalancing, which resulted in rebalance-lnd (https://github.com/C-Otto/rebalance-lnd/).
InFebruary 2021I moved the node to my own server, changed the name to c-otto.de and started to look into things more. I added more liquidity, tried to figure out a fee policy, opened and closed channels, filed bugs, ...
As part of that effort, inMay 2021I started lnd-manageJ (https://github.com/C-Otto/lnd-manageJ), a Java server tool that I use to get useful statistics, send rebalance payments (using Pickhardt Payments), ...
ForApril 1st 2022I temporarily changed my node's name to "zero fee routing | lnd". Fun times, for those who still remember "zero fee routing" (which moved to CLN at around the same time). I didn't set zero fees, though :)
Now, almost 7 years after the initial creation, the node is still running fine, and I see decent traffic. I plot my routing details using rrdtool (backed by lnd-manageJ and some ugly scripts), and I'd like to share some of these graphs with you.
I censored the interesting data due to reasons. Sorry. I hope the graphs are still somewhat entertaining!
