Pasicrates and Valentinian, brothers and soldiers, openly confessed their faith during the reign of Diocletian. Miraculously healed after being poisoned, they were sentenced to beheading. As they were led to their execution, they praised God, encouraging other Christians to remain true to their beliefs. Despite threats and attempts to manipulate him, Niphon refused to compromise his principles, leading to his eventual forced resignation and exile. He returned to Athos, continuing his life of prayer. In 1949, the communist regime arrested Hieromonk Visarion, the confessor of Lainici Monastery. He endured torture in prisons, remaining steadfast in his faith. Even when faced with starvation, he refused to renounce his beliefs. Miraculously, he survived a firing squad execution, only to be imprisoned again. He reposed in 1950 in Pitesti Prison, a place infamous for torturing Christians. When a pagan priest demanded Donat sacrifice to idols, he refused. Furious, the priest poisoned the village's wine. Donat, with the power of prayer, reversed the poison, making the wine pure again. He and Venust were later martyred for their unwavering devotion. Venerable Daniel the Hermit, in his cave at Voronet, advised Prince Stephen the Great of Moldavia to continue fighting the Ottoman Empire. After Stephen's victory in 1475, Daniel instructed him to build the Voronet Monastery in thanksgiving. Daniel's wisdom and prayers were instrumental in Stephen's reign and defense of Christendom.
