Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. Bishop Bretanion of Tomis faced Emperor Valens, an Arian, who demanded he commune with Arians. Bretanion refused, declaring Valens misled. Angered, Valens exiled him, but soon, an angel appeared to Valens in a dream, warning him to reinstate Bretanion. Upon return, the people greeted Bretanion with joy. The Emperor commanded Bretanion to open the churches to the Arians, but the Bishop said to him, "You have ruined the city and the churches!" When the people heard that they should commune with the Arians, they wished to revolt. The holy man held them back, and said, "Do not fear. I alone will go against the emperor, and I will not let any of you perish."

St. John Cassian, after years of monastic life in Egypt, journeyed to the West, specifically Gaul (modern-day France), where he founded two monasteries near Marseilles. His writings, especially the "Institutes" and "Conferences," became foundational for Western monasticism, influencing St. Benedict. Cassian sought to impart the wisdom and practices of the Desert Fathers to the Western Church, emphasizing the balance between practical work and contemplative prayer, and cautioning against spiritual extremes.

In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was formless and void, and darkness was over the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. Then God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. God saw that the light was good, and He separated the light from the darkness. God called the light “day,” and the darkness He called “night.” And there was evening, and there was morning—the first day. Glory to the #Trinity, the source of all creation! Let us #worship the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, now and forever. Amen. #GodIsGood #HolySpirit #Creator
